Paul Casey

fair enough Chris ,but the caddy talk is just third hand gossip isnt it?
as for your personal experience well that is just unfortunate that your opinion of him is based on such.
i dont think that Casey should have turned his back on the european tour ,but i will defend his right to do what he thinks is best for his home life and his game . just the same as i respect your opinions on him .at the end of the day it would be a pretty boring world if we all held the same opinions wouldnt it.

Ye, we all have differing opinions and that's why this forum works well. I think the caddy had seen Casey in action so its not exactly 3rd hand gossip but lets face it we all gossip about people in everyday life and we judge people how we see them

I dislike him for no other reason than backing him for the last two events @ 90/1 and 40/1 respectively and him bottling it, particularly last week - can't really knock him for losing out to DJ last night.

Paul Casey is pretty much an American - he went over there early and has lived his life there so he was always going to settle there

He was a good Ryder Cup early days but heard things that he wasn't very good in the team environment

In 2010 he was passed over for a Wild card by Monty because it seemed that he didn't show commitment to the Ryder Cup ( wouldn't play in an event ). He then got hurt lost his PGA card and was forced to play on the ET again - won an event , got an invite to the PGA and got a card again and then dumped the ET.

The ET was there when he had nowhere to play but as soon as he could he was gone again and then gave up his tour card

By giving up his card it showed that he didn't want to play Ryder Cup

He is a good player - hits a great ball but maybe a bit overrated

As a person can only judge on what we see and hear and for me he wouldn't be a golfer I would look to watch

Do you know him personally??

I think he would have been a good pick for the Ryder Cup, along with Knox. Two form players who are very familiar with the US environment, I can only see that as being a good thing.

What I don't understand is why you have to play on the European Tour to qualify, it's not the European Tour v The PGA, it's Europe v US, so really it shouldn't matter where you play. Seems like we have chosen a team selection criteria that detracts from our ability to pick the best team for the job.

It's about protecting the European Tour. With the money on offer in the US the exodus could cripple the ET with few of the top Europeans coming back for any events.

Actually it is since responsibility for selecting captains and, thus, the team selection process lies with those two organisations.

It is the media who, for the sake of brevity, refer to it as Europe v the USA.

I actually admire the way he bounced back from such a career threatening injury, coupled with difficulties in his private life, many would never have made it back.

As far as choosing America over the European tour, why not? Most of the other Europeans have upped sticks to chase the dollar and who could blame them - more money, better tournaments, more world ranking points and not as much travelling involved from week to week.

Good on him and hope he scoops the big one next week.

People soon forget that Casey was passed over twice for the RC when he was playing some superb golf running up to the events. I can understand his reasoning this time round for not making himself available.

He was overlooked in 2010 and I believe due to attitude. He was injured in 2012 and was rightly overlooked for Gleneagles.

I'm with Hobbit, I think he's a tosser

Harsh decision to accept if you are paul casey, at the time ranked in the worlds top ten and with a proven match play record.

All turned out well for Europe, but not montys finest hour if you ask me.

Surely it proved to be the correct choice

What people sometimes seem to forget is its not just about world ranking - it's how players work together within a team environment.

The US have always just gone with WR where as Europe skippers have looked beyond that and seen what sort of partnerships can be formed

The US are doing it right now with Watson - in the Top Ten in the world and not being picked

Monty picked the team he believe would win and they did.

Plenty of players have not been picked for wild cards but they haven't thrown their toys out

it seems that people think that monty made the right decision leaving PC out of the team cos he won ,
he was the luckiest captain we have ever had , that team should have been hammered .

Sorry i dont understand ?

In what way "should" they have been hammered ?

Europe got more points than the US - does that mean every win is "lucky" ??
