ParFromAfar.com 12 month scratch challenge has launched...

Absolutely fair point you make mutleee.

As far as I have read though nobody has yet succeeded in going from no handicap to scratch in 12 months. That is what floats my boat.

As a challenge it's a monster. Not one that I have entered into lightly. Full time commitment, fitness training, psychological support, the works.

The fact that I am also fundraising has to make it worth some short term casual support on your part to give it the time of day. See how I go for three months...

If someone had achieved this already then I wouldn't be attempting to do it.

I believe 100% that with the right planning and application it can be done.

I have put my money and effort where my mouth is.

Why not just support and see how I go?

On the contrary.

While you are right in that I joined the forum to promote the parfromafar.com site I am interested in the responses and I am reading them.

To achieve my goals I will not be able to service the sites I have posted on - but as I'm writing every day to the site and have included my e-mail address both here and on the site if you want to communicate with me then feel free.

Hi Homer!

I am in contact with John and have read his book as part of my research for this challenge.

John played a single round of par golf from a similar starting position to me while holding down a full time job. He only quit right at the end.

I am attempting to achieve a scratch handicap - a whole different ballgame. The main difference is that I am giving the project full time commitment. The playing, training, fundraising and writing will take up all of my time.

I'm glad that you appreciate the value of my potentially achieving that goal. It genuinely has not been done before.

What's also different about what I am doing is that I am not writing about it retrospectively. I have stuck my neck out and said "I'm giving this a go, you can take the journey with me in words, video and pictures day by day for better or worse". There will be no retrospective soft focus applied.

I can't say what will happen - but you should get the sense from my site that plenty of thought has gone in to what will be required to succeed - and each day you will be able to see whether things are going well or not.

However I do there will be a full 12 month body of work documenting the journey free and for all to make of what they will.

Hopefully many will enjoy and donate to the charity.

Plenty are - and have already.

I hope you join them.

The point is Parfromafar it's a bit like the guy who, when you come in the clubhouse and bump into, you ask "how did you get on today" he actually insists on telling you, shot by shot.

If there's funny story or something of interest then you don't mind, but, if he's going to go through his tedious round in detail then you just don't want to know

I wouldn't read a blog over a year covering this any more than if you were training for the London Marathon

Sorry

Chris

Thank You.

I am reading - but realistically I wont be able to maintain this diligently.

If you are interested then following on twitter and sending the occasional tweet is the most efficient way of both following and staying in touch.

Give the parfromafar.com site - and the challenge - a chance. However I do it should make for an interesting read / watch.

OK

I just get so EXCITED about what I'm doing...

You make a fair point though - about the CAPS that is. I will stop shouting.

Nobody else is currently trying to get from never having had a handicap to an official scratch handicap in 12 months or less.

I'll give you your dues if you give me mine - give my site 5 minutes, you might enjoy some of it.

Absolutely no worries.

I understand.

As a point of fact though: Nobody has achieved what I am attempting to do before. A genuine scratch handicap within 12 months from never having had a handicap.

I appreciate that my challenge / story is not for everyone - but many people are enjoying following and are donating to a very good cause.

I fully appreciate you may not be one.

I'm afraid to say they are. novice2sctatch is attempting the same feat. I got cajoled into starting my blog 18 months ago with another guy. He cut and run early doors and I've been doing it solo :o ever since. There has been a blog explosion in the last six months and if it wasn't for the fact my number of regular visitors is steadily going up I'd jack the whole thing in.

Good luck with your efforts and as a Hammer I approve of your charity of choice. :D

I actually like the concept of anyone attempting this regardless of how many have or will, the blog is also a lot better than a few others I have checked out. I just wish I could take a year off work to get my h/c down, unfortunately I fear it will be a long and painful process for myself just to get below 20 ;)

good luck and I will be following your progress.

Having looked at your site it is just the same old tosh but with the added "celebrity" section of interviews. ALL blogs are just look at me I'm wonderful stuff and to be frank are rubbish. Why anyone would want to follow you on twitter is beyond me I suppose the updates will be along the lines of finished at the gym now to hit balls. Yawn.

Cheers for the heads up - I think he is more geared towards the John Richardson "round of par golf" definition of scratch.

He has got himself an 18 handicap which, with the time he has left pretty much excludes him from reaching a genuine scratch handicap within the 12 months.

That is what I am after.

For me to achieve I wont submit my first 3 cards until much later on. My aim is to be playing on or about par golf before submitting any cards to get that first handicap.

Fair point Chris.

My hope is that there will be enough going on with the fundraising, practice, coaching, rules, mental coaching, media, people I encounter, invites I receive etc. etc. to keep it interesting. That's over and above the actual rounds I play. You are right, that would be pretty dull.

I would say it all in the quality of the writing and the presentation - but I accept your concern.

Give it a go and let me know how I do.

G1BBO,

Thank you so much!!

I'm not "loaded", I have invested my life's savings into this challenge and have a clear business plan - as well as the £100k charity target to achieve.

It is not a year "off" as such - just a year devoted to pure golfing excellence - and achieving something extraordinary. My charity fundraising hopefully balances the clearly selfish dream of living the life of a pro golfer for a year.

You are the first person who has noticed the quality of the website over and above those similar sites that I know exist. I have ploughed weeks of my time into its design and I'm really committed to keeping the content interesting and punchy.

Thanks for appreciating it - and following.

...Or then again.

No worries.

I'm never going to please everyone - and I wont try.

I need my energies for the challenge ahead.

I'm sorry you wont be along for the ride.

Don't be sorry I am not.

I tried...
