The Pardew 5 and a half year contract reminds me of one of those famous votes of confidence from the board/chairman.

I'm taking May 2011 as my choice in the sweepstake.

Mike Ashley seems to want to have success in the Premier League before they have consolidated their position. Success was staying up. They were doing well in the fact that they were not struggling. They had lost games without some of their main players ( Nolan, Colocini). Maybe Mike Ashley will take over when he gets rid of Alan Pardew.

Isn't the idea that he's on a low basic, with high bonuses.

So if he fails he'll be cheaper to pay off than a shorter contract with a higher basic.
