Heading with 11 mates to Northern Ireland in April to play Royal County Down then up to play both Portrush tracks.

We had decided to head by ferry from Troon to Larne sailing Sunday morning and returning Tuesday tea time but the schedule is now out and alas the Sunday morning sail is 11am and not 10am meaning that we dock at 13.15pm in Larne making the likelihood of making out 14.36pm tee time at RCD very slim!!

So we are looking at taking the Saturday night 19.30 sail from Troon instead and hitting the hay and then having a lazy Sunday before playing RCD in the afternoon.

The help I am looking for is a recommendation for somewhere to stay for 12 on the Saturday night...anything cheep and cheerful with a boozer/bar but not a total flea pit please!

One bit of advise Alan is stay out of Larne its a tip and your allegiance to a certain team wont go down well, i noticed last night they'd changed the ferry times, the last twice i've been the ferry has been nearly an hour late in leaving.

Not a lot of accommodation in Newcastle with the exception of the Slieve Donard which will be pricey for what you are after. I'd be inclined to look at something like the Park Avenue Hotel in east belfast and newcastle will be hour away in the morning.

lots of B&B's in the area, the avoca hotel its in the town as well as it reasonably priced IIRC http://www.avocahotel.co.uk/rates.html
http://www.ivanhoeinn.co.uk/ this is in carruduff which is basically in a straight road some 20 mile from RCD

I would highly reccamend staying out of Belfast particularly the east as the current flag protests are getting very out of hand at the moment

hope this helps fellas, enjoy RCD awsome Course

Another vote for the ivanhoe. Just up the road from where I used to live and work. We used to put our customers/visitors in there with no complaints. Bar, resty and off license all on site too with a decent filling station/shop within 5 mins walk too for supplies.

Thanks for all the help guys, just to update we have got a decent deal to play Dundonald on the Saturday before ferrying across to Larne on the 19.30 and we have opted for a night in the Premier Inn at Carrickfergus at £17.50 each then a lazy hours drive down to Royal County Down on Sunday morning before heading up to Portstewart and staying in the Anchor and playing both Portrush courses on Monday and Tuesday.

Can't wait!
