Hi folks can I get a clarification on local rules issue. On our course several power lines cross the course, we have a local rule in place saying a ball striking overhead power lines must be replayed as per recommendations. All fine, we do not say pylons and structures so in my opinion it's wires only not pylons. The reason being you can hit a good shot and hit the wires but only a dreadful one could hit a pylon!
Trouble is the specimen local rule given in rule book says pylons and structures all be it in brackets. My thoughts are the because the pylon part is in brackets we have the option to add or not. My question is therefore can we make it wires only or must we include the pylons and structures?

My understanding is that the bracketed elements are acceptable options under the MLR, and that their inclusion, or not, is at the discretion of the committee.

In the case of E-11 this is well illustrated in the need for the committees assessment of whether they interfere with the play of a particular hole; implemented by having a general LR or only for specific holes.

If implementing for the lines alone I would include the word 'only' in your LR wording for clarity.

One of the 2019 Rules changes

Prior to this year the relief was only available for hitting the wires and not the supports.

The change in the rules should be looked at by your committee to decide as to whether not to include the supports.
