Morning People,

I am quite new to the game and have only really taken it serious over the last 12 months and have noticed a lot of open competitions about. Me and a mate fancy entering a pairs competition but the problem is I have an official club handicap but my mate doesn’t. Would we still be able to enter one as they only have his word that he is a 24 handicapper and not an absolute Bandit wanting to win? Failing that is there a way that a golfer who is not affiliated to a club can get an official handicap?

Basically, no, I'm afraid. There are various organisations that offer handicaps for non-golf club members but they are not officially recognised. You could always ask the organisers. You never know.

Opens - no
Charity Comps - Played in one a few weeks ago where they ran two comps one for society handicaps and one for club handicaps. Good idea I thought as at end of the day they want maximum entries for the charity.

You can't get an official handicap without joining a CONGU affiliated club.
