Never played one.
A combination of time and money (or lack of).

I was tempted to play in one at the Oxfordshire years ago but didn't.

The thing about them mate as its a good way to get cheap golf and play of the back begs, the St Andrews one is £23 with a 2 course meal the green fee is normally £65 the Forfar one is £12 you cant get better than that.

Good value for sure. they don't seem to be advertised round here much. Can't say I've heard of any or seen any notices. BUt then round here you have belong to one of the "proper" clubs to go in fo that sort of thing...

We even have a list of all the opens in the Highlands in the local paper The Inverness Courier at the end of March each year, Its in the form of a full page pullout. I think the P&J do it as well.

I try to get somewhere new each year as a treat. I do play Sheringham and Cromer each year up on the North Norfolk coast , both 36 holers. There really are some cracking deals out there for 36 holes. Most come in at around £30-50 for 36 holes and usually lunch and evening meal aswell. Probs going to do Woodbridge this year aswell although i've already got a 36 hole Fire Brigade event there so I may give it a miss.

Apart from the Open at my home course I only usually manage 2 opens per year. The Kirkwall Open, which is at the other 18 hole course in Orkney, and the Thurso Open. Would like to play a few more in the Highlands as its easy travelling and I wouldn't need too much time off work which may be a problem this year.

This year I am hoping to play a couple, Loudoun Gowf and Ballochmyle. The costs are £8 and £10, hardly expensive as they are normally in fantastic condition and you get to play off the back tees. I will play in our own open, does that count ?

There is a book or the golf central website that tells you about the Scottish ones.

Ah, useful information. I shall be making sure I get the Courier around that time then. Will make my open season planning a lot easier! :)

Hoping to play Royal Aberdeen's one as its tough as hell so im told and a course thats been on my list for a while.

Royal Aberdeen's been on my list to play as well. Found out today their open is on 25 September which is a bummer for me as it clashes with one of the County meets, decisions, decisons...
