He may be making his Masters debut this week, but Martin Kaymer has the game to go very close this week.

His length and accuracy off the tee, and his ball-striking will mean that on the firmer fairways he will be firing the ball close a lot this week. He may not hole enough putts to win, but he will be nearer the top of the leader board than the bottom.

You bet your bottom dollar that he will be being shown around Augusta in the run up by Bernhard Langer, who navigates his way so well that he is consistently in the running even in his "yip" years on the hardest putting track on the planet.

At 150-1 in Corals, he's got to be worth an each way quid.

How do. I think Kaymers maybe one for the future but the intricacies and finesses of Augusta are rarely tamed on a first visit. So many people have came and been humilated by the place. But you are right that his ball striking is good enough - lets put it this way - Augusta seperates players into 2 catergories - those who can play it and those who cannot. If Kaymer gets there and finds that its the perfect course for his game then why can't he win? But my instinct tells me that if he and Woods are out last on Sunday together, tied at something like 10 or 11 under, 4 clear of the pack, and that sort of scenario still remains on that 12th tee then the real mark of the man will be measured. If he can take it all in his stride he has a real outsiders chance. Like you said - at those odds, you'd be mad not to place at lease one pound.

I'm with Benny on this one. Kaymer is a real talent, having watched him the last cuple of months, but don't think he'll do it this week. I hope he plays well and lerns from the experience, it should make him a Major contender sooner if he does.

welcome to the forum mate, good thinking about Kaymer...could make yourself very popular very quickly if people follow your advice and take a punt and it comes off.

Personally I don't fancy him this tiem around, maybe in the future.

Not this week. Augusta takes learning and the majority of pros particularly European struggle in their first visit. I happen to think he is a good player who will contest majors in the future. Just can't see him being a threat here
