old rangers fined £250000.

Because they will, in all likelihood, take the fine from Rangers prize money for finishing 2nd last year which the SPL withheld

Is it odd that the tribunal decision was released today, the same day that the SPL accounts had to be lodged at Companies House? and that Doncaster is away on important business?

I don't understand this?

If money is owed to the old co then the liquidators should be gunning for it to eventually disperse it if anything is left after they take their share.

A company (SPL) cannot hold money back even if its for a liquidated company, its rightly and legally theirs whatever the situation and would be shown as an asset as the SPL would be shown to be a debtor of that amount!

Is that the same as cheating

No, because they didn't.

They used a method of payment that whilst probably not morally correct was in fact judged to be legal at that time. You would have to be very naive to believe that Rangers are the only club to have used EBT's, Rangers were a test case - pure and simple.

As today's decision and report states 'Rangers FC did not gain any unfair competitive advantage from operating side-letter arrangements, nor did the non-disclosure have the effect that any of the registered players were ineligible to play, and for this and other reasons no sporting sanction or penalty should be imposed upon Rangers FC.

so no, there was no cheating.

So why the need to hide it then? They obviously knew something wasn't right.

The big question to ask and it would be hypothetical more than anything, would the players who received substantial sums tax free via EBT and undisclosed side letters have signed for Rangers had the financial benefits not been there?

If not then you could say that Rangers potentially did gain advantage.

This is a question that probably can't be answered accurately therefore the enquiry couldn't come to another conclusion to the one they did today.

As I said in an earlier post, this all needs put to bed and move on

I should add that this makes no difference to anything, time to let go and move on.

Most sensible post I've ever read when faced with more putrid crap involving the bigot brothers. Its history now, just like Celtic's checkered history. Leave it and move on with stuff on the field.

Would the players have signed without the EBT cash? Possibly not, the payments took their net wages up to the level they expected in order to sign - But, as EBTs have been found to be legal and available to be utilised by every club then no, Rangers did not gain an unfair advantage by using them.

The side letters thing was just smoke and mirrors from the SPL/ SFA. Did Rangers gain a sporting advantage by not detailing EBT usage to the SPL, no, Lord Nimmo Smith made that quite clear in his report.

Expensive smoke and mirrors however given that the investigations/ tribunal probably cost a fortune (I'm sure QCs don't come cheap), the SPL have no sponsor for next season and Sky will not pay much for a deal at all, the viewing figures this year have been appalling which means a drop in advertising revenue for sky. There financials were lodged at companies house today and will be available to view tomorrow, I'm sure they will be interesting.

This enquiry stemmed from a refusal from Rangers to bow to blackmail on the issue of title stripping, let's not forget that Rangers had no alternative but to accept a transfer embargo, judged to be illegal in a court of law, or they would not have been playing football this season.

Time to move on indeed but I doubt many of the Rangers faithful will be happy to, they have memories that make elephants look positively forgetful

Why do titles, and trophies matter any more? Surely the rangers is a new club, with no history etc, or there is no point to all the declaring bancrupcy etc. wasnt all the old silverware melted down to pay the creditors? If not, why not? It's a new club, nothing to do with the old one?

Confused?
