Old Chestnut Slow Play

I dont mind the older players taking a little longer between shots but it's when the ball is on the green after 6,7,8 or more shots and then all the crouching tiger stuff, whats the point. Another bug bear is the after shot analysis when it goes wrong.

I totally agree about overly long pre-shot routines. I have one which I stick to rigidly but I think you'll find that anyone on here that has played with me will agree that I'm one of the quickest players around.

I've nothing against any standard of golfer having a PSR and happen to think that a good one will help them focus and play well under pressure (after all that is why the pros and good amateurs rely on one) but those that take an age on picking a club before going into a five swing routine really are a pain. Again on the greens, I'm all for looking behind the ball at the line and even going round and looking at it the other way in a competition if you really can't tell but more and more players, predominantly our younger golfers all seem to stalk a putt even a three footer from every angle.

In defence of the older golfers, most I know don't actually have a PRS and very few bother to really study putts. The problem I have is their intrinsic refusal to le others through when they hit into trouble and the need for all of the group to leave their bags by their own balls and all go over and search. Far better to call players through (there really isn't any shame in it), let the guy who lost it search and once you've all played go over and give him a hand if you still can't find it.

Oh gosh Homer. Here you go again

"when they hit into trouble"
As if the the old git's can hit it far enough, and you NEVER hit trouble.

"let the guy who lost it search and once you've all played go over and give him a hand if you still can't find it."

Sexist for someone in your job , but I'll let that go. If I wanted to be a member at your club (assuming what you say is correct), then I wouldn't bother as I, and all the Vets/Seniors I play with have better manners and etiquet than would appear to be the case at your gaff.

On Wednesday mornings I usually have a 4 BBB matchplay bounce game that takes about 4h 05 mins including about 10 mins stop for a bacon sarnie and drink. Today in a vets comp, we were 3h 50 mins incl ditto having trouble keeping up with the group in front and being pushed from behind (AS WERE ALL THE FIELD).

If it's the Vets/Seniors who are holding you up on the course, stop playing as a 2 ball in with the 4 balls, chose your tee time more carefully, or go elsewhere where only 2 balls (you and Pedro are allowed.

I couldn't care less if a round takes 3hrs or 5hrs. I wouldn't be stupid enough to think that a round might ever be a quick one.

If I'm playing with someone who is moaning about the pace of play ahead I take great pleasure in NOT helping them look for their ball when they hit the clag,... they seem to really appreciate me shouting out "Are you going to take the WHOLE 5 minutes?"

:p :p :p

Played the other day, and 3 out of 4 drives were in the woods, as were 2 of the provisionals.

That means we can take 25 minutes looking for balls.

Should we have let the game behind through?

Leftie,

It isn't just the vets by any means and actually our women are pretty good at letting people through. Not "oldie" bashing at all and again the majority at my club are very consientious about letting others through but we do have a small minority who think it is some kind of sleight on their golfing integrity tto even suggest playing through and they are the ones that cause the logjam.
