It's that time of year again when the bookies go daft and let us mortals bet on whatever we like at the Open. As usual they're offering odds on a top ten finish. Given how difficult it is to predict the top 3 or top 5 I prefer these bets and have done quite well with them in the past. The added bonus is that there's no "each way" element to the bet so it only costs half as much.

So here are mine. What are your bets?

;-

£10 on each of the following to finish in the top ten

Gonzalo Fernandez Castano @ 17/2
Nick Dougherty @ 17/2
Soren Hansen @ 17/2
Boo Weekley @ 14/1

All good players on decent form with decent odds. One of them should keep me interested until the last few putts , I reckon.

Gone a fiver each way on Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter. Both decent links players and both having a decent season so a top 4 for one of them will make me a few quid! :)

Have to say Kaymer is a form horse but I don't think links will suit him.

not made my mind up yet, but have narrowed my choices down to the following (a couple of which to be backed each way):

Europeans:
Poulter
McDowell

Yanks:
Brian Gay
Zach Johnson
Jim Furyk

All of them seem to hit a lot of fairways and/or have had some previous success in competitions where accuracy is a pre-requisite

That young Rory lad, Woods, Westwood and Stricker to finish in the top 10 for me. I actually think that Rory will win the thing... don't know why, i just have a feeling.

Ive done a couple of accumulators on top ten finishes, one is 3300/1 for a 5 timer including Westwood, McIlroy, Jiminez, Poulter and Paul Casey.
Also did a couple of slightly less risky ones including Tiger, Sergio and Harrington.

I'm not going out my way to disagree with you today Stu, honest I'm not, but Kaymer only lost last years Dunhill Links (played over three links courses) in a play off.
I think he's every chance this week.

PS. Would it be unprecedented to win the two preluding tourneys and go on to win the big one?

For those who dont know PaddyPower are paying out on the top 7 for each way bets....

I've gone a couple of quid each way on...

Ogilvy
Westwood
Poulter
Rose
Milkha Singh
Storm

Now if one of them doesnt finish in the top 7 i need shooting.

Singhs pulled out, he obviously heard i backed him and realised he had no chancee of winning.

What are the odds on Poulter to win?

Even at 7,000,000/1, it would still be a waste of a quid!!

Will you be happy to offer all of us those odds on him then? I'd be perfectly happy to risk a pound or two at those odds! :D

Hehe :D

Unfortunately I don't have £7,000 let alone £7,000,000 but I wouldn't put a penny on Poulter winning anything.

Don't believe (his) hype.

Of course, it's only my opinion...

I'm going Westwood for a top 10, Tiger top 10 (no surprise) and I think I'm going for Stenson as well. As for the winner, I'll have a few quid on Woods (he is looking good) but I think if the weather gets worse (as BBC are predicting) it could be a grinding week and so Ogilvy, Westwood and Furyk as well

Well lads, a few of us have still got runners who'll make the weekend interesting for us.

The Goosen and Furyk bets aren't looking too shoddy for those who bet on them.

Personally am chuffed to have ALL FOUR of my top ten bets still in with at chance. Currently that would mean -2. Boo on -1 is 14th, Hansen & Dougherty on par are 22nd and Gonzo on +1 is 29th. Would it be asking too much to get all four?????

Come on Boohandougonzo!!

A mate of mine put the bet on Goosen for me, turns out he got me 55/1 not 35's as I initially thought.
So 200 extra reasons for wanting him to win it over the week-end...and all of them with the Queens head on them!
A nice 64 from him today would really go down well
;) ;) ;)
