I haven't owned a 4 iron in about 9 years so would have been a waste testing me for that. This is why custom fitting for irons is basically a scam.
The difference from a 4 iron to a PW is huge, yet they don't bother to test those. The only way to be custom fit for irons is to hit every club or at least 4, 7 and PW.
What a glorious humble brag… you git!I was lucky enough to be invited to the Royal & Ancient clubhouse at St. Andrews for a coffee the other day. Saw this adjustable loft club from circa 1900 and wondered if this is the way forward?View attachment 58905

SGGT fit with PW, 7i and 4i, I believe.
And they can put any grip on an iron too.
Most will fit with a 7i or 6i, and the fitter should be able to know how that will translate up and down the bag... if they're a good fitter.
I haven't owned a 4 iron in about 9 years so would have been a waste testing me for that. With iron lofts continually getting stronger, 7 iron is a long iron these days.
Well my set is 6 to AW so I make itNo way is a 7 iron a long iron! I know lofts have been jacked up in game improvement irons but that's madness!
What do you hit for a punch shot to keep the ball low when you're trying to avoid trees?
Well my set is 6 to AW so I make it
6 & 7 = long irons
8 & 9 = mid-irons
PW & AW = short irons
6 iron for low punch shots. It's 24.5° I think.
Just the one.. 23° in place of 5 iron.Fair play. I'd say you've just got short and mid irons in the set thoughDo you carry a fair few hybrids?
Had my driver fitting at SGGT this morning. Very comprehensive and I was there for over 1.5 hours.
Confirm that they remove fitting charge if you order, but the expensive Oban shaft that suited me best made up for that.
It was actually really enjoyable. Got shown around also, some set up. All clubs are built on site.
I heard today that they are expanding again.I rechecked on the fitting fee and although they charged the card, the fitting fee was never taken.
My mates irons were built in their Scottish facility, not at Chesterfield where he was fit, but yes, in-house.
They are coming to Glasgow, They taking over from scotsdale golfI heard today that they are expanding again.

QI35 standard with Oban Isawa gld shaft.Nice. What head and Oban shaft worked best, and are you going ahead with it?
Yep, 24° is my Ping G10 4-iron.6 iron for low punch shots. It's 24.5° I think.
Yep, I sometimes put my 23° hybrid in the bag instead of my 3-iron.Just the one.. 23° in place of 5 iron.
Out of curiousity, what is your issue with graphite? When I went for a fitting, I tried numerous shafts and finished up with UST Recoil as they suited me far better than any of the steel shafted options. I must admit that I was in the old mind set of whippy graphite shafts but these are excellent.Went for a iron fitting on Thursday. Narrowed it down to a couple of possibles. Although the recommendation was for a slightly lighter shaft, no (hooray) mention of graphite!
However, all the test heads were 7 irons. I really wonder what the 5 iron or gap wedge feels like!
Seems an anomaly to me.
