Had a few lads ring the bell flashing a piece of laminated page. They say they ‘made a mistake in the past and now on the mend, trying to sell something as part of community work or not sleep rough etc..’ Never know how genuine they are as the piece of paper is flashed too quickly.
All houses down our road have ‘no doorstep selling’ but that hasn’t stopped anyone from ringing the bell. Whenever I remind them, they can turn abusive about how I don’t care about society and how mistakes should be forgiven etc.
Anyone seen a rise in this?

We had a spate of this a few years ago.
I have no prejudice one way or another.. I don't buy or do business in my doorstep.
Although I have some sympathy if they are trying to turn their lives around, I'm not sure this is the way to do it.

Yeah.... my 75 year old mum was told to "F off" by such a seller last weekend when she informed him that she didn't buy from doorstep sellers.

Good job I wasn't there because I'd have stuck his card up his arse....sideways.

Around here (north Suffolk) we've had warnings from the police about "Nottingham Knockers" who go door to door trying to sell cleaning products while claiming to be on an ex-offender programme. There are apparently two scams in operation. The first being that the products are over priced. The second being that they are looking for vulnerable people for either a distraction theft or to watch the house for a later burglary.

We had a spate of this once everyone moved into the street and so chances are they were looking for a chance to rob one of the new houses. With a pair of coppers in one house and a CCTV camera outside another and with alarms fitted as standard on all of the properties not a great road to choose. We get the odd seller now and then but I simply tell them no and shut the door. Fortunately not had too much aggression or hassle

Funnily enough my mum lives in North Suffolk. Not sure she would appreciate these folks being called "Nottingham Knockers" given that she's from Nottingham herself!!!

Not meant as an offence to anyone from Nottingham but if you Google "Nottingham knockers" there are loads of warnings about them from various Suffolk areas.

I'm on my Kindle so can't post the links.

I am from nottinghamshire and can assure folk we have the door sellers here. In fact years ago when my lad was playing football as a kid. One of his team mates dads was a door seller and was openly proud about making a tax free fortune. Whilst at the same time noticing jobs need doin to drives, roofs etc etc.

“Just trying to get meself back on track and earning a honest bob squire”. Was one of his little quotes

Always travelled and never did it in his own back yard.
