Me and the lad (12yrs) are driving to the Scottish Open on sunday morning. We're in the scottish borders so will be driving up to Edinburgh then across to Loch Lomond. As we're both new to golf and never been to a big golf tournament before is there anything anyone can recommend/advise? We plan on leaving at 7am and hope to be there for about 10am.

Thanks

take a small folding seat that you can throw over your shoulder. There are some lovely spots around the course to sit and watch the golf.

Comfortable shoes are a must to if you plan walking the course with a pairing.

Take a picnic and some drinks.
£4.50 for a bacon roll, £2.50 for a portion of chips and £2.00 for a tin of pop leave a nasty taste in your mouth.
Oh and don't say "well played" when somebody walks off the green after making a 5 on a par 3 like my mate did at the European Open... :D :D

Thanks for the tips !

I'm so glad the wife's making us up a picnic to take. Those prices are a bit steep!!!

I'm just hoping the rain keeps at bay.

Cheers all!

Subways are £6, burgers £7 £3.50 for a pint of Carlsberg so as the guys say, fill up the picnic bag.

I'd also leave earlier than 7, crowds will be busy and best to be in early than sitting on the A82 listening to the radio.

What a great day we had!

Thanks for all of the tips. We took a picninc, seats and binoculars.

Those guys are just amazing. As was the course.

We left at 07.45 and arrived 10.15 No problems at all with traffic. Even on the way out afterwards there wasn't much of a delay.

My son loved it and ended up with quite a few signatures on his hat. Along with two of the players golf balls.

Off to the Open next Sunday and now know what to expect.

Glad to see that you had a good time and the lad got a couple of mementos although I hope the balls had stopped rolling before he picked them up.... ;)
Good luck at the Open next week. Hope the weather stays as calm for you!
