Had a little round today at a local club and the pro was the most unhelpful and obnoxious person I've met.

Short and blunt one word replys to my not intrusive or complicated questions. The course was empty and I thought no wonder with a tw#t like that!!!!

Really peeed off because I had been recommend this club and it's so local I would have looked to join :(

Anyone else had similar experiences?

how often will you interact with the pro as a member? is the course nice? do you have friends who play it?

the reason I ask is just because the pro's a nonce doesnt mean you can't enjoy membership. If the course was quiet then great cos it means you can roll up and get a round easily and if friends are members even better.

I understand if the pro was a top bloke it would enhance the experience but it wouldnt be a deal breaker for me

Quite true.

Fantastic way to look at it. It just avoid the arse lol.

It was a really nice course. And with it been so close to home I would get more rounds per week. Cheeky 9 holes after work.

Decisions decisions

I agree with the above. I'd join then make a point of going in and letting him know of all the bargains I had bought from AG and Direct golf, that would really get your own back on the knob.

One or two pros think I'm a t--- but they still take my money. As before, if the course is good, the price is right, close to your home, your mates are there then the pro is last on your list.

When I joined my club the secretary at the time was a real pompous as*wipe and everyone locally was aware of that. I went to the club to pay my joining fee and annual sub and he was at the bar after playing one Saturday many years back.

I said "excuse me but I have come to pay so that I can start playing next week" he said "have you made an appointment to see me" in a really condescending manner, my reply was "if I had made an appointment you would be sitting in your office with your suit on and talking to me as a new member not a piece of sh*t, theres my cheque if I need an appointment give me ring and I will see when I'm free" - I never had any more trouble with him again and 3 years later served on the committe with no bother.

Just join the club if it's the best one and dont let the as* put you off!

Was it really that bad and do you honestly think an empty course it attributable to the pro? Maybe he was having a bad day - we all get them. Either way I wouldn't have let it put me off joining. How much time will you spend in the pro shop other than entering and paying for competitions.

My advice would be to go back in, and maybe have another chat and perhaps ask him about his stock, lesson prices etc and engage him that way
