I'd ask about what comps and winter leagues they have before joining. If their weekends are taken up with comps and winter leagues, and you don't have a handicap yet when will you get to play?
Yes this will affect the way you may get to play with other members or you may find you are on your own again. Some Clubs, like ourselves operate 'Winter H/caps' which can be obtained by submitting 3 cards. Yes a few things to ask first..... how do they book weekend tee-times.... often they're at a be of premium due to limited light. Despite all that would be an economic way to get winter Club golf.

Course I used to play had full tee's and full greens all winter - although the course could suffer as a result in the summer.

No fairway mats - preferred lies though of course.
We played off the yellow tee's rather than the whites, which saved about 300 yards.

However, looking for a ball in a pile of leaves, or knowing you were in the vicinity of the ball, but it was underground from plugging was a complete pain in the arse.
