Not the news I was hoping for

Ethan.

Sorry but I think that I was editing while you were posting and our posts crossed, so to speak. I'm sorry also to hear about your problem.

Chris.

Sorry mate, but we seem to have hijacked the thread a bit, but it is probably worthwhile if more peeps can be made aware of what can happen when least expected.

With what you say about PSA screening confirms what I've read about it - it's not a definitive test. My level was 3.74 and my Doctor thought it a little high so sent me for a biopsy.
Which contradicts what I read on the internet that for a man of my age (60) a level of 4 to 4.5 is ok. The Consultant said that they prefer 3-3.5. So good job my Doctor was on the ball.

Best wishes in your treatment Ethan - a good walk on the golf course must be good for you.

Golfmmad.

Thanks.

The problem with PSA is that if you draw a graph of the range of values for people diagnosed with prostate cancer, there is a large overlap with the range of values for unaffected people.

If someone/s PSA is through the roof, that is a clear alert, but for so-called normal values, the only way to sort them out is by biopsy, and although that is normally safe enough, there is some risk associated with it.

I have had a few investigations too. About 2 weeks ago, I had an angiogram, where a wire was put up the radial artey to the heart and some die squirted in to see if the arteries were OK, as a possible explanation for the cardiomyopathy.

Golfmmad, you will do fine. Allow yourself time to recover from surgery, and pace yourself for a while. By the time the weather starts to improve, you will be laughing.

No probs Roger, and I agree about awareness, as I said, was part of the reason of my post.

Likewise, will look forward to a game in April.

Golfmmad.

Hope you have a speedy recovery, hopefully all the awareness and money raised through Movember just gone, will help you and others.

Does this mean we can put you down for growing a silly moustache next year too?

Thanks Ethan, and are the arteries ok?

Golfmmad.

Despite years of unhealthy eating, they were in very good shape, so the cardiologist has eliminated coronary artery disease as a possible cause. Now the official cause is 'idiopathic', which is the medical term for 'we don't really know'.

Thanks for sharing your news guys and hope it works out for both of you..

I was talking to a customer a few months ago who had recently had surgery for prostate cancer. He told me that it was detected when he paid a visit to a "lady of ill repute" who detected that something was wrong (I wont go into details)

So get yourselves down to your local massage parlour for a check up

Fragger

All the very best Golfmmad.

I have been having blood tests for some years now and recently my PSA readings have been going up. My doctor has now sent me to a to a Urology unit, and i will be having all the tests this Friday. Must admit i am not looking forward to them, but i would rather know one way or another, than live in fear.

Early diagnosis is the key, and i recommend having blood tests to everyone.

All the best again

Rich

All the very best and hope things go ok for you in the coming weeks and months. Stay positive and enjoy the golf, cricket and other offerings on Sky sports!

wishing you a speedy recovery golfmad. my father had the op 7 years ago and he is nearly 71 and doing fine, so it wont be long before you are back on the course. just take it easy and do not rush back and over do it.

All good wishes from us here for the surgery and a swift recovery! I have just cleared out a ton of golf mags from the office, do you want them as an alternative to Sky some of the time? Happy to send them if you pm me your home address?

Sandy
