Ladies and Gents I think I may have arrived at the conclusion that I am not good enough for my wonderful Scotty Cameron putter. When I stroke it out of the sweet spot it feels and sounds so buttery smooth and my pace judgement is spot on. Unfortunately, the sweet spot seems to be as tiny as a midge's nadger in Baltic conditions and my consistency suffers as a result. You see when I miss the sweet spot I'm left way short and stuck in three putt central...

Scotty makes precision instruments for precision players, and well to be honest that just isn't me right now, especially if I'm a little edgy over a putt. I end up with a little wobble on the takeaway and then the longer the journey back to the ball the more likely I'll be off centre.

So commons sense is saying, in fact it's screaming at me, that given the fact I have forgiving woods, hybrids and irons why not have a more forgiving flat stick, especially as I use it so often every round. Scotty is staying for when my stroke improves (and I love it and couldn't bear to part with it). So what do you think?

This thread is now open for:

a) empathy - I know exactly how you feel buddy, been there myself
b) abuse - grow a pair and pull yourself together man
c) indignation - oh here we go again blah blah blah boring!
d) encouragement - buy the shiny, shiny things are good, it doesn't matter which shiny any shiny will do
e) other (please specify)

Make life easier for yourself.
You liked that Ghost one the other day if I remember rightly - go forth and buy another putter.
Put Scotty away for a better day...

And grow a pair !!!!

Buy a new putter forgiving but still nice; doesn't have to be brand new but maybe even a different style like a 2-ball or something as you can never have enough options for clubs can ya?!

If you change putters will it make a difference to your wobbly takeaway?

It can do.
A high MOI shape will be more stable on the backswing - as long as you get on with the putter in the first place.

I can recommend the Odyssey No 7 - it's even turned Fragger into a half-decent putter.....

Ok granted. But the point is that the wobblyness(?) will still be there so, IMO, it would be better to get that sorted out first (as well as being a bit cheaper!)

Play with someone who has a two ball putter and watch them 3putt all over the place and remind yourself that it could be you 3 putting with something equally forgiving.

Then give your scotty a big hug and and all is say all is forgiven.

But then you could change your putter and never ever 3 putt again  ever

+1 for he #7!! helped me a lot! before had an old Ping Kartsen, but I too, was wobbly with it, this putter is a lot smoother on the takeaway and i get a nice roll

Before Dumping it I would recommend reading "putting out of your mind" by Bob Rotella.

I can't recommend this enough (even though I recommend it alot :) )

Sounds like you have convinced yourself that you are a bad putter because of the scotty. Our man BOb devotes a whole chapter to this, were golfers fix there issues with new grip, new stance, new putter. All of which tend to be short term fixes and mask the real issue.

He reckons we tend to become what we think of ourselves, so he who believes his putting stroke is not good enough for a scotty - will not have a stroke good enough for a scotty. On the other hand -he who thinks he is the best putter in the weekly 4 ball usually becomes the best putter in the 4 ball.

I had 28 putts on saturday, because I have finally stopped trying to steer the ball along the line I chose or take putter head back perfectly.

I bought it for 0.01 + 2.80 delivery

I'll go for C ;)

Instead of starting a thread about not being good enough to use a certain putter why not start one on how to become a better putter or how to improve your putting. That way you can have the joys of using one of the best looking putters on the market.

Slicer read putting out of your mind - great book. I'm not saying I'm a bad putter just saying that there are some days when I strike the ball off centre and my Scotty has a really small sweet spot so it's noticeable. On a good day when I always hit the sweetspot I'm deadly with it. I practice most evenings for 30mins or so and am working on being a better putter BUT...

If this was about my iron play you would say play game improver irons rather than forged blades. Why is a putter any different?

Tiger, what Scotty do you have?

I had a newport 2.5 and averaged 40 putts per round, wobbly on the short putts and no feel whatsoever for lag putts (4 feet short or past was common)

Sold it to a much better home and got myself another scotty but one that fits my eye better and my stroke, only tried it once so far but lags are a joy, 4 footers seem easier and even drained a 40 footer........

as Ping say, dont change your stroke, change your putter!

are you sbst or slight arc or strong arc, it REALLY makes a difference which putter suits

According to iPing I'm strong arc. Which scotty did you get to match that?
