Hello chaps,

Ive been reading the Scottish forum meet and after a bit of argy/bargy, thankfully it looks like it is settling down again. Firstly, this is in no way a sucking up exercise on any part as I haven't met any of them (Craw or Smiffy).

My twopennorth worth has 2 points:-

Firstly, we should appreciate the "organisers" of things like this, as I know it is a hard thing to do. I am also one of lifes "organisers" taking on the mantle of over 30 european trips for up to 8 lads following LFC as well as small golf trips for various opens during the year, even before pop concerts, nights out etc. It can be a thankless task, especially the more being catered for. There will always be extreme views/vested interests/mingebags/money no object types and getting the middle ground is very hard.

I dont want to get into the Scottish forum mega meet argument as others have also come up with some boss ideas/options, and I have only read part of it.

Secondly, I have been watching the arrange a game section recently and the end of last year, and I have yet to see someone try to organise a north west meet. I may be interested in trying to sort something out on here, once I know more people, as so far I have only played with 2 people on here. I am just surprised that us friendly northerners have not managed to sort one out, apart from Hillside which MikeH has done for us.

I only joined last August, so there may have been many in the past, but don't know. Is it a Scouse v manc thing or any other reasons why we haven't. Is the NW too tribal, I don't know, but we are golfers, shouldn't we be better than this. Maybe we haven't got a Craw or a Smiffy to knit it all together. I am not putting myself forward either, although might try one in the future once I get to know more on here.

Anyway, just wondering. Could we do a greater Manchester v Merseyside Ryder cup as quietly mentioned a few months ago. I would be willing to sort out our side, any takers from the Greater Manchester side?

Any great hope out of the wastes of Burscough, the steppe of Oldham, the pie shops of Wigan to organise even a small meet. Or are we beyond hope.

If Smiffy or Craw want to become a naturalised Norverner/Shandy-drinking Sassenach to do it for us, I would sign the forms, and show you the local dole office.

Good luck with the Scottish meet, you don't know how lucky you are to have more than one option..... at the moment we have none.

Good post Liverbirdie, I've been thinking along the same lines myself. I've got to be honest and state that i'm useless at organising things, but would be willing to help if a few people were up for a jointly organised do. Maybe a good idea would be to include our inbred Yorkshire "cousins", thereby giving us a West vs East (A la Rocky iv) dust up.

Come on Lads, who's up for a Norvern wasteland golf shindig....

We had a Yorkshire v Lancashire match a few years ago. Played it at Vig's course, Mid Yorkshire. I reckon you could get plenty of interest if you revived the fixture

This side on the country (Yorkshire) we have quite a few active forum members been a few posts and 'range meets' sorted. So maybe it is just the scouse/manc divide or just no one with enough time on there hands.
Hopefullythis thread will inspire someone to take the reins and have a go.
Maybe '19' meets @ '5' different venues? :)

Done it once and tried to arrange another but just couldn't get the numbers.

We seem to have more NW folk on these days so I'd be up for a meet.

Would be good to see some old and new faces.

Would be interested in a Yorkshire meet, or Yorkies v Lancies meet - providing 28 handicap hackers are OK to take part.

Same here, might be best having a couple of different pairings - hackers v hackers, mid handicappers v mid's etc. I wouldn't want to spoil anyones card!

I'd be up for a meet, only ever played with a couple of forumers from the NW but there does seem to be a few about.

I am not in a position to spend a lot of time organising it on my tod unfortunately as have a lot going on at the moment.

I would be happy to help try and organise if duties were shared though?

Begs the question then, would one of the Yorkies be willing to captain a Ryder cup side, and arrange a team from their side? Maybe 12 a side, to keep it reasonably manageable, more if both are oversubscribed.

Or a greater manchester captain?

Who knows they may even send a photographer from the whippets monthly.

I'm sure 'eee by gum' weekly would cover the game. I'd be up for joining a game but not to captain it!

Is it just me? But I don't do or get this manc/scouse thing! I'm a manc born and bred, plus red till I'm dead. HID is a scouse and red till she's dead too. We get on ok (most of the time lol).

Would love a game with anyone in the northwest. Only trouble at the moment is. I'm confined to weekends. Not got a H/c yet(only just joined a club). Plus not playing full 18 at the moment, due to injury. Oh and no car that works as well. But if it was latter in the summer. I am well up for it.
