The lofts on the Amp are two degrees stronger than the Ping i20. As a result, they will be nearly a club longer through the set, so you should really be comparing the Amp 7i to the Ping 6i for a true comparison.

The Amp has a some what scary 44 degree PW.

The problem these days is that the heads are designed to launch high so the have to crank the lofts down to keep the ball from hitting your nose.
There probably won't be a huge difference in distance if the shafts are the same.

Also, the i20 was a demo 7 iron and didn't have one of the face protectors on it, whereas that Amp had a protector and still went further, noticeably further as well.

I'm going to give the i20's another chance when i go down for the fitting, and maybe try some other clubs that I didn't try today like the R11's, RBZ and the Razr's. I'm hoping for the Amps or the i20's but happy to go with whatever the Flight Scope tells me is the best for me.

Forged clubs arent harder to hit, they have a softer feel and you should get more feedback from your stirkes, cast clubs will generally last longer and dont get marked as much but then possibly arent as soft a feel.

As forging clubs tends to be the way most blades are made they are often categorized as being hard to hit but there are plenty of forged clubs that have cavity/forgiveness built in.

So depends what your preference - have a hit of both and see what you like. I would agree hit the Callys and also the Titleist AP1's and the TM R11's. If you are going to fork out 4-500 get the right ones.

For me I love the feel of a forged club and although I may give up a few yards thats fine. (I have had cast clubs too)

"We don't have a monitor here, I'll static fit you. I mean, not being rude but I fit scratch golfers so could fit you and get good enough results" to which one of his work colleagues sniggered so I said thanks and walked out. Confirmed that I definitely don't want to buy my sticks from AG.

I know this website has it's fair share of AG lovers and haters but when you get treated like that when you're thinking about spending £700+ on new sticks it's no surprise people slag them off. Now had bad experiences at both of my local AG's and the local Nevada Bobs, although better customer service, is poorly stocked and only has a net to hit balls in. Works out ok though as the Burgess Hill golf centre is 5 minutes from my in laws so the wife will be happy as she can go in and see her family for a couple of hours. Also got loads of friends down that way so can get one of them to pop in the shop and pick them up for me once they have been built and meet me at Dartford.

Just out of interest, i bought my Callaway Diablo's from AG last year. Off the shelf, not custom fit. Is another golf shop likely to be able to custom fit them for me, would they even do it as i didn't buy from them? For all i know, they might be right for me, but wouldn't hurt to find out.

You might be better off phoning the Callaway fitting centre in Chessington.

I know mate when you are potentially spending a lot of dough you deserve better I agree. I only use AG now and again for stuff like Bags/clothing etc. I never buy any clubs from them but I dont go in trying all their equipment either, I was put off when they had me carrying my 7 iron 170 yards which I knew was wrong. Went out to my practice area and measured it myself and sure enough 145 yards from then on I have never hit another club in AG and will not in the future.

I think once you've done the rounds and tested all that you want to try (can I just chuck the Cleveland CG16 and the CG16 Tours) into the mix you need to sit down, draw up a short list of 3-6 and decide whether you are prepared to go for the full blown C/F or would be happy going somwhere and just trying a few standard shafts (R/S 300 etc) and going from there. Whatever way you go, enjoy the process and its a shame AG and NB dont' seem to recognise a good sales opportunity when they see it
