Nissan

Those Kodiaqs are simply stunning.

Fortunately for my wallet, it won't fit on my car port.

Am looking at one for my next company car. But if you get a half decent engine that will move a vehicle that size they are not the most economical and will take a bit of a hit on company car tax, especially when that goes up in the next couple of years. Looks like it makes more sense as a private buy.

HK - I looked at one but the lease price was quite high. I ended up with a Superb instead. My local Skoda dealer had sold a few without customers even seeing one. Crazy decision which he couldn't understand to be fair but Skoda have a loyal customer base. The lease price may be starting to drop but you are correct about the BIK rate going skywards. You need to check that out very carefully so that you don't get a scary shock in years 2 and 3.

The Superb is on my final list as well along with a Passat and a few others. I've had SUV 4x4s for the last few cars and I just fancy a change. Is it as good a bargain as they say it is?

I'm the same in that I've had an XC60 for a few years but fancied a car with better economy, lower BIK. The Superb ticks a lot of boxes and seems very nice, enough of the toys that I want. I test drove, and am getting the auto, and it was ridiculously easy to drive.

As a guide, I am getting the SE Tech, 2.0 Tdi DSG. 17k miles p/a, maintenance inc, 3 + 35, £288 plus VAT per month. I ticked a few extras but nothing extreme. List price ended up about £26.5k. I think that is a great deal. I've deleted the Kodaiq lease price now, deal has been signed so no need to keep it, but I seem to remember it was about £360 plus VAT minimum based on the same figures.

I also looked at the Passat but the list price when specced against the Superb was much greater and I could not justify it. I can also get the Superb as a h/back whereas I would need to get the Passat as an estate, saloons are no good for golf clubs :D, not the two sets I need to lug around for me and my son. That means higher list price again. The interior of the Passat is slightly nicer than the Superb but the difference was not large enough for me to offset the extra costs involved. You may feel differently when you look at them both.

Which model do you have? Reason I ask is I've just leased a 2.0L diesel D4 which claims around 65mpg extra urban cycle. Obviously I won't get that but expecting to see over 50mpg average as most of my driving is motorway/dual carriageway. Do you think that is realistic?

I have that same car. In summer I average between 44-46mpg with a mixture of dual carriageway and country lane driving. That drops to 40-42 in winter. It all flows pretty well. Motorway driving, don't go above 70mph as that kills the economy significantly, can get you to around 46-48mpg. You will only top 50mpg if it is you in the car, on your own, no luggage, keep at 50-50mph. I know this as the only time I have ever topped 50mpg, I got 52mpg, was doing a long journey on my own and I went through a ridiculous number of contraflows. I have never repeated that feat. I'm up to 50k on the clock so the engine has been well worked.

This topic comes up quite often on a Volvo forum I am on and my figures are mirrored by most others who post on there with the same car / engine combination. The only ones to manage better are the "older folk" who confess to tootle everywhere at 50mph. Not realistic for most of us.

As many on there mention, it is a big, heavy brick of a car. Mid 40's is actually pretty decent but the marketing spin does tease people with the promise of more.

Thanks for that, was hoping for slightly better news but at least you broke it to me gently :D

It's like an informative episode of Top Gear, cheers for that. ;) I thought the Passat boot was quite spacious, suppose I'd better go and have a look at some car dealers.

Better to get honest news than feel bitter and think only your car is not getting what it should. It's a really good car though, great on long journeys. I've had a good 3 years with it.

The Passat boot is big, I just get annoyed by saloon boot openings. They tend to be awkward and restrictive. Try getting a Christmas tree in a saloon boot :D. Same with boxes or any item with a bit of height. That might not be your type of gear so it wont matter. I like the ease of a h/back. No need to guide and place stuff, you just chuck it all in.

Off topic, but the boot space in the Octavis is as big as the Passat, but the badge on the front is at least £3.5k cheaper,

my Superb is just that, only regret for me is not having the estate version, I went with the 2.0TDI exec model

It might be because there is a factory up there churning them out ten to the dozen and a lot of employees get cheap cars........;)

Actually, I never noticed that massive factory on the A19 which has it's own junction sign posted Nissan :D

It's also family and friends of employees plus family and friends of all business associates (I can get 20% off a new one as the missus works for a law firm who Nissan use). It really is crazy how many there are up here.

My Brother in law's cousin twice removed services their coffee machines, would that qualify me ;)
