I've just purchases some irons second hand that come fitted with Nippon 950GH shafts. Lovely. The grips however are well worn and could do with replacing. The shaft butt diameter is 0.610(?), so what core grips (.58 or .60) do I need to ensure grip size plays as standard? I only have little girls hands see and I don't want the grips to run thicker.

Cheers all

Personally I would go 0.600 round with single layer tape.
0.580 will stretch more making them thinner although probably not noticible.

.58 is, roughly, a .60 core with a layer of tape (1/64" oversize). .58 grips have more material in the grip making these fractionally oversized on a .60 butt.

If you were to put a .60 grip with 1 layer of build up on this shaft it would be, approx, 1/32" oversize.

Personally I would fit a .60 grip and stretch the grip 3/4" to get the standard size.

Either that or just fit the .60 grip and play the grips 1/64" oversize. Chances are you won't even notice.

I agree with the 0.600 as the choice but I think that the 0.580 would make it even thicker rather than thinner. To get to a standard grip size, the walls of a 0.580 over a 0.580 shaft need to be thicker to bring it up to standard than the walls of a 0.600 over a 0.600 shaft. I'm sure one of the OEM's used to put 0.580's over a 0.600 shaft to give the grip a more substantial feel.

Edit; that'll teach me to go away & put dinner on and then come back & type without refreshing…...
