Has anyone read this wonderful novel?
I first read it years ago and recently read it again to see if it had stood the test of time.
I have to say it is as valid today as when it was written in the 1940's

It warns of the dangers of a totalitarian society where free thinking and speech are outlawed and anyone practising them runs the risk of being sent to the terrifying 'room 101' and even becoming an 'unperson', whose name is not even allowed to be spoken.

The novel was the origin of the terms 'Big Brother' and 'Big Brother is watching You!'.

It's well worth a read.

.

Aha - we're back at the Dress Code debate again ...., I feel like Winston Smith and I'm going to be forced to sit in Room 101 with a load of middle age blokes in polo shirts and Dinlop trousers saying "don't we look smart"
Enough to drive anyone crazy
I can see you all watching me through my Ipad screen right now ...........

I remember reading it and particularly a part where they talked of hidden cameras across the whole country that filmed and recorded everything that people did.

At the time I thought "what a load of tosh, that could never happen".
We're now at a point where I beleieve it could be very easily achieved, and we're already being filmed and recorded to a far greater extent than I'd ever like to imagine.

It has come to pass; probably to a greater extent than Orwell could have foreseen. Still waiting for the implant chip which will record and transmit our thoughts to the 'thought police'. It's already coming to a car near you

This already exists.
This is a common practise for rather rich people who get their children chipped in case they are kidnapped - it's not just dogs
Personally I think that is something the Human Rights Act loonies ought to be looking at

As I said, iam sure I can see someone looking back at me through my ipad
