Nick Dougherty To put away the clubs

He's growing on me but I'm not keen on blokes that stand licking their face in the mirror! On saying that it's a no brainer for him and similar to Coltart, he'll earn more money being a pundit than a player 👍🏼

Honesty is a good thing though and it's clear that he's now accepting that he's cr@p, good on him but he needs to lighten up a bit with the advice ... bearing in mind that he failed he doesn't need to talk like he's a past superstar! If he's tuning in then good luck 👍🏼

I would definitely not say he has failed, he lost his way, which most probably came from off course troubles. He was very close to his mum and her death was a big shock. I would also say he is not now crap, agreed he doesn't play to his previous level or that of the European Tour, but I am sure he could go out and shoot a few under on any course outside of tournament conditions. In my eyes not someone that is now crap.

Hmmm, yeah for us he's obviously good but from the tour side he's a poor also ran, that poor that he can't get on the tour! I've got no idea how many times he tried to get his card but one fail is enough, curtains!

I like his commentary, easy on the ear, saw him presenting live at The Open at Royal Troon and was impressed.

Anyone who has been to one of the Callaway Kings of Distance days and had a go at presenting with Rob Lee will know how hard it is, so dont go saying its an easy job.

You need your head screwed on for sure
Think we will be seeing a lot more of him in future

One fail is enough! What about other players that have 'failed' more than once trying to get their cards. Scott Hend, Chris Hanson and Matthew Southgate are three that spring to my mind without even looking, each having good seasons this year.

He`s ok and as long as he isn`t allowed to bring his "bride of Wildenstein" lookalike wife along, I`ll be happy.

The Links Diary about ND is a very good watch. Gives a really good insight to the touring pro and how it can go wrong very quickly.
Available on Sky catchup thingy in the sports section.

Well good luck to those 3, I hope they reach dizzy heights! But the threads about a 'finished' pro golfer and that's exactly what he is.

That is a very good watch

Last year the clinic he had at the British masters with Westwood , Poulter and Harrington on various parts of the game was really good , as was playing a round mic'd up

Just shows how incredibly difficult it is to be a 'top pro'
Dougherty, in the early 2000's, was unanimously thought of in Amateur ranks as the next big thing, played Walker Cup, seemingly had everything going for him
Think he won 3 Tour events, just didn't make the step to next level

I like him. He was good with Butch predicting the results. Don't think he got many right though.

Get rid of Richard Boxall though. Didn't realise how dreary he is until watching the Ryder Cup all day. Just blandly agrees with everyone else, and has no original thoughts. Ewen Murray is showing a bit of personality now Sky have got Rich Beem. Don't know why Rich was wasted on the course, get him in the box.

Rich Beem's big moment major win was at Hazeltine , gawd knows how many years ago, so he obviously had a godlike insight into the course and how to win there.
That said, he was good and think he would do well in the studio.

I'd like to see forum member StuC on sky, that would be quality entertainment :) :)

Good luck to him. Seems like a nice fella. I think he is getting better and better as a pundit. I like him and David Howell a lot. Wayne Riley and Coltart on the course are superb and I find that if the golf is on in the background, I always stop what im doing to listen when they are talking.
