And am not sorry but that has proper pizzed me off.

For what, am 54 yr old and just realised that the New Years honours list is a joke.

It's been a nonsense for many years. I'd end the system and cancel all titles. Have some letters after your name but nothing in front that gets to be used.

Seem to remember the Labour MP Dennis Skinner asking Clegg if he would accept a peerage after the dissolution of the Coalition govt. "No, it would stick in my throat," was the reply.

Mmm, two faced self-serving?

At least they didn't make him a Lord!

Absolutely not!

May (or may not) be worthy of Knighthood, but I'm certain he would have declined a Peerage!

A quote from the Beeb's article....

'The former deputy PM said he was "grateful" for the knighthood which "belongs as much to my team in government as it does to me".

He added: "The knighthood does not mean I will serve in the House of Lords. My aversion to unelected legislatures remains."'

Or he could of just said
“ thanks, but no thanks”.

The only issue I ever have with the Honours List is over peerages as they perpetuate an unelected element within our Parliament. Something to which I am totally opposed.

All the others are merely prefixes and suffixes to people's names and are harmless to the rest of us.

Theresa May giving top honours to half the 1922 committee and cementing her place is far bigger.

That's just the usual bi-annual love fest all the parties partake in when they put their choices forward. Personally, I feel the whole thing needs relegating to the dustbin.

But only 6 on the ruling board. 3 of which have been bribed, I mean awarded honours. Along with a Vice Chair.

Hardly the most left wing publication either 😂

'twas ever thus!

There has not been a Government of any political persuasion that hasn't used the award of honours and appointment to office to garner support for it's legislative programme.

It's a practice as old as time itself.
