Well I've just got a great surprise, as our club have just added a February Medal and February Stableford to the calendar. So that means our/my season starts on 5th Feb rather than end of the March as previously communicated.

Personally I'd like to play a qualifier every week but I know some people at the club will frown upon it.

When does your season start, and does it coincide with the qualifiers at your club? .... or do you wait for the better weather? ;)

Qualifiers all year round as our course is usually unaffected by wet fairways or greens. Only time I remember being on temps was when the snow was on the ground. Tee markers are moved forward but put back for the monthly stableford comps.

Is your course indoors CK :smirk:

Think ours is still end-March time. They usually do a warm up qualifier that doesn't count towards the order of merit.

I actually raised with our comps sec why we couldn't do qualifiers all year round. I don't think weather as an excuse holds much weight any more. I think we've only not been able to play once in the last 2 years and can't remember the last time we had to use temps.

He did say something about course length, as they take the whites away in Winter. And that the low handicappers wouldn't like it playing off a shorter course as it gives high handicappers even more of a chance.

Personally I don't see it but asked them to consider maybe having a few qualifiers a bit earlier in the year.

Was a qualifying medal Saturday just gone, no seasons at our place, if the course is playable and no temp tees or greens then our comps keep going

Won't be playing medals till April time at the earliest at my club, yes there will be medals before that however the greens will still be bumpy.

Links golf is better for winter. I guess you can play all year round competition golf!

We have a stable ford two weeks yesterday. First comp of the year. It might be qualifying, depends on course conditions. The course is playing proper short though. It will be par 72, ss70, CSS probably 69 so you need to play well to get a cut. On handicap won't even buffer.

Tomorrow we play our 4th qualifier of 2012 - would have been the 5th but we couldn't drive them out onto the course with a pointy stick last Tuesday as it was tipping it down!

I feel privaliged. Our season just carrys on running with Stablefords and other comps every Sunday and Non Drawns on Saturdays. All qualifiers but off the yellows insted of whites. I think the whites come out in March and medals start appearing again.

Our course is very dry, we sit on chalk, so rarely closed, and only when it's snowed do we not open.

Quite surprised really, but I thing Dec/Jan is mostly fun comps and we probably wouldn't have enough tee times for a full event anyway :)

Ours is usually 2nd or 3rd week in march but we do have winter stableford comps that started yesterday until 28 th feb but they're non qualifiers and 7/8 handicap.

We've also had a brand new green built on our 10th par3 that will be ready for the captains drive in day. It's looking superb at the minute and will be a lot better than our current 10th that suffers pretty bad with drainage.
