New season, hows your game looking?

it was the first game of our season yesterday and my game is looking good. i won with the lowest round ive ever hit. for one im top of the oreder of merit haha. the course we played was pryors hayes which id recommend to anyone to play. its in cheshire about 5 mile from chester

I'm feeling pretty good about my game at the moment so I'll probably crash and burn on Saturday.

I took a massive amount of confidence from the way I played on Saturday after the 1st couple of holes so I'm hoping for some good scores over the coming weeks

Been playing well until my last 2 rounds, even though my round yesterday equaled my PB i think i only hit one fairway with my driver and have gone back to hitting some nasty big slices. Today i lost 7 balls and N/R on 6 holes and again hit some of the worst drives i've ever hit but still scored 29 points off a 22 handicap so there must be something in my game going kinda right although it don't feel like it is.

Hopefully my bad driving is down to me having a head cold and my balance feeling abit off and not something else! :D

Feeling pretty good about my game at the moment. 37 pts and a 0.3 reduction on Saturday gives me confidence I'm heading in the right direction. I just need to cut out some silly mistakes and bad course management, and hopefully I'll hit my target of 12 before the end of the summer.

Phil - with 73% of Fairways hit, and only 32 Putts per round, 2 things are clear........

1. Your Iron play badly needs some work ! - sharpen that up and.......
2. .....you should be off substantially less than 18 !!

I had intended to have lessons all though the winter and start the new season with a new swing. But with the snow at Tain lasting longer than expected and the pro taking Jan off and the training I was doing for my half marathon golf has taken a back burner the last couple of months. I haven't managed to have a lesson since November, and have only played Tain twice this year so far.
Despite this I have been hitting the ball well up until Saturday. My driving has been good, can't remember the last time I missed a fairway and the putting has really come on. However made the mistake of going to the practice ground on Sunday and hitting close to 200 balls. Shouldn't have bothered :( went out after and played a full 18 and hit the ball much better. :D

Still a long way off from where I usually am this time of year, but roll on next weekend at Machrihanish, I'll reassess after that. ;)

We have been playing qualifiers all winter so already have a good understanding of whats got to be done. IM still bashing this in to out swing fault which is still catching me randomly, but the HC had dropped twice already, and ive only had 2 rounds outside of buffer so far this year.

If i can get this swing path sorted single figures may not be out of reach, but i think course and range time are key.

I can only dream of 73% fairways.

I wouldn't worry about the 16% birdie conversion either, I think SS2's figures are a little high on that.
You're sinking 1 of every 6 birdie putts, and presumably they're not all inside 15' so I think that's good enough.

From your stats I'd say chipping is first thing to look at. Only getting up and down 1 in 6 isn't going to get you cut very quickly imo.

I feel like my game is on the verge of being very good. I've been shooting around my handicap over the last few rounds with a lot of putts. Our greens are awful we've had some new drainage put in 6 of them.

I had a lesson a couple of weeks back, my swing is in the best shape it's ever been in. I'm much more on plane now and I've stopped dumping the club behind me on the downswing. I'm hitting it much straighter and further, I've just got to get it properly ingrained into my swing.

I'm hoping to get down to 2 or 3 this year which I know is a big ask. I feel like I've got it me to do it, if not more if I can stop the odd blow up hole.

If i of answered this las weekend i would of been pleased but a week later not so good. Drivers lost all distance irons gone bit to. Only thing getting me by is chippin and putting.
Mind this time next week i might be the total opposite cos thats how this addictive but annoying game goes lol. Its all good fun at the end of the day

My game in parts is pretty good but i just need a bit of consistency.

Now the light nights are starting i will be able to get some decent practice in after work over the next few weeks and i hope to see my game click.

My target handicap cut is 4 shots this year which i'm confident of doing.

I've had a reasonable winter, but the last two or three weeks I've not played great.

That said, even if I play quite poorly there will always be one or two elements of my game which stand up and I still find that on a bad day I'm scoring at worst in the mid-80's.

The key for me is from the tee, because I'm confident of hitting greens from the short stuff, or getting up and down from the fringes if I miss. My mid irons and chipping/putting is pretty solid.

I have already played one competition, shooting 38 points, and our next one is this weekend, when I'll be giving a new driver a go. All in all I'm pretty happy with where I am and am looking forward to a good year.

A bit mixed for me, have worked ard over the winter and its starting to play off in parts. Hitting a lot of good iron shots but missing a few too many fairways still, especially with the Driver. Short game flits beween the sublime and the ridiculous, problems are mainly in my head and theyre slowly getting sorted. Was putting well until I switched putters to try something else, hopefully havent done any damage and the scotty goes back in the bag tomorrow

Mine is 13 rounds so far in 2011.
FIR - 62%
GIR - 61%
SCR - 47%
PUTTS - 30.125
Average score of 2011 - 2.33 over par

Looks like it could be a good season. Short game has been lacking for the last few rounds. Costing me a few shots when i'm striking it really well and looking to shoot sub par. Then my short game lets me slip to a couple over. Got a short game lesson booked for tomorrow though!

Things are looking pretty rosey for me. Started with Stack and Tilt at the end of last season and have had about 5 lessons my ball striking and control is much better.
I am off work this week and after playing this morning and thinking I hadn't played great with a double, double start I ended up with a 77 net 62 so was well chuffed with that.
Hoping to play 18 again tomorrow with a 1hr short game lesson in the afternoon and then try to play each day for the rest of the week.
If I can carry on with this form we should be looking at a good handicap cut this year.

Been my best winter since I took the game up with a few rollocks won and having already broke 40pts on atleast 3/4 rounds.

But and its a big BUT my driver has over the last week gone big time, and I am fully aware its a big no no to talk of hitting driver over 300yrd but this is somthing I am capable of and let me tell you looking that far in the deep dark woods is no fun :D

Looks like the vast majority are starting the season with optomism! :)

I wouldn't worry about the 16% birdie conversion either, I think SS2's figures are a little high on that.

I've thought that myself a few times Gary, I guess it's impossible for SS2 to distinguish between a birdie chance of say 15ft or less and a GIR where you could be 60ft away?

From your stats I'd say chipping is first thing to look at. Only getting up and down 1 in 6 isn't going to get you cut very quickly imo.

I genuinely think my all round short game is in pretty good nick, certainly better than at any time before. I'll try and make a mental note of how close I am chipping now you point it out mate. Averaging 86 of all the rounds recorded, so like most of the other posters I am hopeful of losing a few shots over the year.

I've gone through a huge swing change over the winter and definitely striking the ball better than last year, just pulling the iron every now and then and missing left. I've got a lesson booked for tomorrow to check it's going in the right direction and to have a look at the driver.

Went to the range this evening and was hitting my 3 wood straighter and further off the deck than I was the driver! :D

Having a knock round your place and a bite to eat afterwards one Wednesday afternoon with Crossy in the next week or two, pm me if you fancy joining us Chris?

It's been a steady winter, nothing spectacular though. The game is "Bubbling Under". The basics are there, the driving is improving, the irons are sharpening, the short game still needs work and the putting is looking good. Averaging anout 2 or3 over so if it all clicks then I feel capable of throwing a low score in. Trouble is I'm possibly not going to.be able to play many comps this year. Our midweek comps are only on wednesdays and that's become my busiest day workwise. Might get to play some late summer but possibly not before then.

If it's SS2 you're using, the scrambling stat isn't a true reflection on its own as you might not be in a position to save par with a good up and down.

If you go to "Analyze Scorecards" then the tab that (probably) says "Stats For Phil (18)" then "Scrambling", it gives you a more accurate figure by ignoring holes where you didn't have the chance to scramble a par with a putt.

Happy with my swing and playing pretty well. Chipping quite well but had limited practice due to sh!te weather. Off for 2 weeks at start of April so will get beasted into putting and chipping practice.
