i am looking at getting a new putter
having a chat with a mate, and he said not to bother with a scotty[he has had a couple] as the greens over here [mainly south east] are not quick enough.
he uses a TM in white, cant remember model, and he is putting at his best, with it, and off scratch
i use either a TM rossa, or a oddessy no1, both about 4 years old, both ok out of the middle, but not quite so good just off centre.
have tried a new oddessy no1 and it feels a lot softer than mine.
any of you have recommendations of what to try

thanks

Putters are incredibly personal and what suits one won't suit another. I quite like the new Ping range which have three styles dependant on your stroke, either straight back and through,a slight in square, in arc or a very pronouced inside the line style. The weighting is adjusted to suit each style. I fancy a Anser in the slight in square in set up.

The greens I play on are not the fastest with it being a links course and I manage all right with a scotty
 As homer says go try some and see

Sorry to say, if you're having problems striking the ball with the centre of the putter face, buying a new putter won't help. Does your lower half move at all during your swing?

Your mates view on putters is based on what suits him, not what suits you. You have to try a few, not just once. Narrow down the one(s) you like, go try them again a couple of days later. I narrowed down to 3 putters when I was looking last year, tried them all out on a dozen or more occasions before making a decision on a Scotty Squareback. Still the best putter I've ever used, and don't need the greens any faster over here to use it.

Worth considering Bob's advice too.

Agree with all the above.

I was in the market for a new putter not too long ago. I had my heart set on a Scotty, but still tried 3 or 4 different manufacturers. Ended up with a YES! Robin as it gave better feel and all round resuts over the Scotty C.

But that's just me.

Go out and try as many as possible on proper puting greens.

greens arnt quick enough?!! what?!! i have been using scotty's down here in the gold old SE for well over 10 years, even used them in Ireland, Wales and Europe!! :o How can anyone generalise that all greens in the SE are too slow?!

i would be interested to know why he thinks they are not suited to the SE? too light for the slow greens? up until the studio selects and cali series, all OTR scottys (unless asain spec or a ltd edt) were 330g /35" (with the small exception of some studio stainless and studio styles being 340g / 350g, but they were special orders) To my knowledge, and i dont know much about other putter makes, again up until recently they would have mainly been 330g too = also too light for slow geens?! Im guessing its the material / manufacture, as the majority of OTR scottys are milled from carbon steel or stainless = Ball comes off softer.

The putter you use is down to personal pref and what you think works for you. I would suggest trying a few different putters and see what you think.

Bobs right of course. I got custom fitted at Ping where they litterally give you an all adjustable putter and say 'set that up'. Then you hit putts and use their Putter App.
What I got was a white dot (Anser 2). White Dot I guess is fairly upright and not ordinarilly available in the range stocked in pro shops.
Having got the wand that suited me I have worked on my putting, changing my head and hand position (and using the V Easy).
The results have recently been stunning.
Go get custom fitted if you ask me.

The man talks sense. What is the most used club in the bag? Makes sense to get something that fits. I'm not an advocate of fitting a stroke around the club but providing you have a consistant putting method C/F would make perfect sense. Out of interest do you have to go to Ping HQ to have it done
