Which course do you play at? Crompton and Royton? I played in an open last year oop near Oldham, can't remember the name, nice course though, down tiny country lanes, and the entrance track cut across the first fairway. It also has a dogleg, downhill par 5 that can be hit in one (maybe only a hybrid for Steve Wood).

Could be, they had a festival on in the day. Loads of morris dancers there. Searched on uk golf guide, but you may be right. Whats Crompton like, haven't got round to it yet.
