Hi all, I recently joined the forum as I was looking for advice on what irons to get as I was wanting an upgrade. I ended up going with a set of Ping G30 irons from 4 iron-SW. They arrived on Monday and they were in very good condition overall. I took them over to the range and I was very impressed with them. When I caught the ball cleanly there was a very satisfying click and they looked great behind the ball. The first time I took them out I was consistently hitting high draws with the 6, 7, 8 and 9 irons, but I could not click with the 4 or 5 iron. After about half of the balls I switched to the PW and that's where I lost a lot of consistency, but I still hit some nice shots in between. I went back yesterday evening and I finally clicked with the 4 iron after I changed my swing a bit and used a higher tee. I hit at least 6 shots that went dead straight and carried a good distance as well. I'll be taking them out on the course this Saturday so I will see how they actually play then, but I am very very happy with them.

4 & 5 irons are hard to hit, don't beat yourself up to much over them. I suspect most people don't even carry them any more. More likely to have hybrids in at that range.

Pleased they are going well, they are a solid choice and should last you for as long as you want them (that is not as daft as it might sound 😄 )

I hadn't hit a 4 iron in a very long time, so I was very, very happy with how I was striking it yesterday. I can try to get a video of it but this forum doesn't seem to have the biggest MB limit. I do want to get (or at least test out) a 3 and 5 hybrid.

I think you've made a good choice with the Pings. Best thing is you will get decent money back on them if you change your mind or upgrade again in the near future. Make sure they have decent grips on them, probably worth giving them a scrub with washing up liquid and a nail brush to freshen them up.

If you do want to show a video on the forum the thing most folk do is upload it to a hosting site and post a link.

@Orikoru can you help with advice on uploading? You have done it before.

It may be exactly as @Backache suggests of course
I just upload mine to YouTube. Then put the link here and the forum automatically embeds it.

(Make sure you film it in landscape, not portrait, otherwise YouTube turns it into a 'short' which is completely useless for linking.)

They are really nice, I think they had been cleaned before they were sent out but I'm not sure. Got green marks on the bottom of the club from the mat annoyingly but that won't affect the performance of course.

Put club on the mat in adress position.
Push it away from you and back with hands slightly forward so the leading edge is on the mat.
The green plastic will come off easy.

Went out to the range again this evening. Consistently hitting my 8 iron 140-145 carry. Struggling with wedges but when I connect my PW is going 120-130 carry. 4 iron was brought out again and that carried between 160-175. Had a few shots with that where I actually gained a bit of height which is encouraging. Rather mediocre session overall though. Big issue at the moment is looking up right before I connect with the ball causing me to shank the ball. Something to work on though.

120 carry with a 36ins 45° club is very good. I would need a perfect hit with my 35.75ins 42°.
But then I'm a skinny old bloke and the 1/2-inch-longer-fit suggest to me you might be a bigger younger chap.

With the 8-iron carrying 140 you have a convenient 10 yard gap between clubs.

I'm 6'3 and 19 years old which might explain why I can hit the ball a bit further, but I am missing a lot of consistency with the wedges so I might have to get custom fitted seperately for wedges as they just feel a bit too short in my hands.

I don't have a 4 iron and the 5 iron spends a lot of time on the naughty step - got a 7 wood instead
