New Club recommendations - Cheshire/Merseyside area

Surely you could argue not to finish paying it if its not asked for anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said, why can't I cease membership and re-join 1-2 months later. They said that they had thought of that, I will get a significant reduction (not told exactly how much) off my 11th years green fees, which is about 2014.

Yer cheeky get. :)

Hows the lessons going?

Do you reckon you'll be able to carry the 12th pond in front of the tee box yet???

Its playing further forward near the women's now, so he may just carry it, doubt he'll get past the end of the path though.

Haha he lost 3balls last time on that hole!

I'm going up Friday about 1if you fancy a knock

Cheers fella, but generally always in work during the week. We'll get a possee together and have a game with Scouser soon. Surely we've got to give him time to save up for a 24 pack of balls , so he can get the 18 in.

Playing in the jack frost on Sunday, possibly sat morning, unless me and my mate play somewhere on the way up to Bolton for the late kick off.

Not sure yet, one of the lads I'm going to Bolton with is a golfer, so we may play somewhere up near there (ive still got 2for1's left), but if not may play Lee park on Saturday morning, maybe 10ish, but will check with my other mates first. If your stuck, gis a shout.

Mersey Valley didn’t have a good reputation as a new course but my brother is a member and the popular view is it has improved with maturity. I have played it 4 or 5 times. Eccleston park has a bad reputation and from the one game I played I ruled it out when looking for a club to join.

Played Frodsham twice, a bit hilly but a lovely course and club house. If you’re prepared to nip up the M62 to the Winwick turn off, why not give the 10 hole (18 tee) Alder Root a try. Have a game for £9 and try it out. I think you will be pleasantly surprised, and at less than £500 for 7 day membership or £350 for 5, it’s well worth it. See this link

Thanks for all the input, by the time I have tried out all the various courses it will be too late to join most of them for this year ;).

I have been past Alder root plenty of times, not averse to a 9 hole course, I learnt to play on Allerton and have played Castle Hawk years ago.

Around 15 of us left Portal last year as it was becoming overrun with societies and hotel guests.

Very difficult to get a tee time and very frustrating re slow play and folk not raking bunkers etc.

Now at Vale Royal Abbey, great track :)

Cheers

Steve...

Is that the Premier Course or the Championship one?
I really like the premier course, some great Par 3's and is a real test! Was not that expensive last time i looked either!

Would agree with some of the comments with regards to the courses in St Helens. Not a fan of Eccleston park, but i hear Houghwood is pretty good although i have never played it.

Played Frodsham loads of times and i really like it. Really nice reception there. Heard a few rumbles of the club letting societies play on Saturdays which has upset a few members though.

The Premier, in summer a lovely place in the world to be.

Some great holes and real good atmosphere in the clubhouse.

Annie behind the bar is a superstar.

But a course full of slow playing hotel guests, a bog in the winter and no tee times made it time to jump.

I played the course 4 times in the last year of my membership as I'd just had enough, preferring to pay green fees at vale instead.

Cheers

Steve...

Plus I never managed to get off 28 there as I wasn't good enough to cope with the sloping lies, tricky greens and waist high rough only a couple of yards from the fairway.

Frodsham is a cracking course and one of my favourites but they let a lot of societies on and the weekly comps are mixed.

I was about to join there until i found out about the mixed comps.
