So, I'm currently in the process of joining a new Golf Club.. Got an informal meeting tonight to meet and greet and to ask any questions I think necessary..

Now, since first visiting the Club, the welcome has been nothing short of exceptional. The Club Secretary was very helpful and friendly. I was offered a courtesy round (which I took). I then visited again a few days later and was given a discounted round without even asking.

I ventured up to the club this morning to see if I could pay for a round and was told to "just play, if anyone asks, tell them that you're a new member".. I was approached by the Club President in the Car Park who proceeded to give me a bunker lesson (much needed). He then introduced me to one of the Past Captains, who spent 30 minutes chatting about the history of the course (it's a Braid course, something they're very proud of)..

I suspect that most on here would recognize this friendliness as normal, but it's a bit of a surprise to me.. It's not even like they require new members. The membership is almost full and 3 more are in the process of joining this week..

Just thought I'd post this as we get so many posts discussing the poor attitudes at some Golf Clubs..

That is quality and how it should be done

It's those little things that will encourage people to queue to join

That's a club to treasure - enjoy

Sounds like the club is one of a kind. ....I've never came across any with bunkers in the car park before :D.

Sounds a great place, are you naming it?

I think that this is great to hear and what clubs should be doing to welcome in new members. Our club operates in a very similar way and is very open and welcoming.

bloody hell man your going from bad to worse, from one goat track to one full of old men and women, mind you with your swing you will fit in.:ears:

Shut it you.. I'll have you know that my swing is a vision of fluidity and movement only achievable by highly toned athletes and yoga instructors... :D Oh, and Dean Wood are gonna muller you in the Victory Trophy this year.... :p

Hmmm! The changing face of golf clubs, eh? Not sure it's much good to be honest.

Give me the good old days when members gathered together in corners, tutted, hissed loudly and scowled when new hopefuls came in and infested the clubhouse bar.

Not sure all this 'friendly and welcoming' stuff's an improvement on when the done thing was to get new chap to lie down on the first tee with a peg in his mouth (clamped between their teeth), whilst the oldest member still capable of making it onto the tee hit a ceremonial drive using a Dunlop 65 and a hickory-shafted wooden-headed brassie.

If the new chap blubbed or flinched he was out. No questions asked and certainly no refund on his joining fee given!

Now where's my pink gin? What?

Good luck mate.

Nice that you will be moving away from Billinge aka the demilitarised zone of the North west.

Will be great to be back on the right side of the lump. :D

i think that the fact that you look permanently confused and dribble a lot means that people will often approach you just to make sure you're all right.

Hope it's all sign of many years of good golfing to come. Manchester is the same and its a good feeling

How did the "Placement off the tee, club up into the green" experiment go?

they say that every year a pint of the finest bitter says we do you again.
