I am joining a new club tomorrow with the gf and i have the forms in front of me and i dont know if i need to put down my existing handicap for transfer or shall i put 3 new cards in as the new course is easier with a lower SSS

Basically my old club par 71 sss 70

new club par 68 sss 66

The reason behind this post is that as the season is starting i dont wanna come across as a bandit.

Can i do this or do i have to transfer my handicap

Thanks for that

Ive played this course a few times and shot a couple under my handicap most times and i think i could play to 6 easily here its not much of a challenge but its a good course and very cheap

Good for the girlfriend though she might break 90 here

If you're still a member of your old club and currently have a CONGU handicap you should transfer it to your new club and make your new club your "home" club for handicap purposes.

Just because it's a shorter course(by the looks of the par/css) doen't mean your handicap will be that far out.

I think you are expected to transfer your current H/C if you have one, and as yours is 8 I would put it on the paperwork in BOLD, and be very proud. If you win your first comp off 8 fairplay is what I say.

Just be honest, when I recently changed I just told them what my h/c was, what I am capable of and asked if I should put cards in or just transfer. I ended up putting the cards in resulting in what I thought would be 8+ but got a 9, but Ive since walloped that sort of score on more than enough occasions, unfortunately not in a comp yet. :(

i am going to be in the same situation, but my new course is par 72 and harder than my current club (par 69 on the old course). Agian not sure whether to hand 3 cards in to get a 'fair' handicap on that course??

This is the correct answer. You can't just start again, you have to transfer your handicap from your old club.

Trust me, I have changed home club 4 times in the last 6 years.
