New Bunker

Pics can be deceiving but there doesn't seem to be much playable area in the bottom of the bunker. Which means all shots that go in there end up being played from the same part - this shovels all the sand out onto the faces and leaves none on the bottom.

I think it would have looked better with 2 or 3 individual bunkers rather than 1 biggun - especially if that is more in keeping with the rest of the course.

Me no likey :(

Looks to have far too much sand in it, and it needs some hapless idiot standing in it to give it a sense of scale. Ideally some one taller than 5 foot 2!

If you want to see deep bunkers get to Woodhall Spa, you'll be spoilt for choice on the Hotchkin course. My personal faves are left of the 4th, left nd right of the 5th and left of the 12th.
Never heard someone having a favourite bunker on a course.;) Having played the Hotchkin when it was a tad wet, I can confirm I hate all the bunkers there.

I see what you're saying. The bunker is (guessing) about 30' long and 10'wide. I'd estimate the playable flattish area (barring plugged balls) at around 15' x 4'.

I think it would be far better if the back of it were much shallower. The part where the rake is is the only way to get in and out without crampons, and it isn't easy even then.
The first time I played the hole there was a ball abandoned at the bottom of it. Obviously someone didn't have a good score and decided discretion was the better part of valour!

I like the fact that it isn't as penal now as a water hazard would be but I can see that balls will congregate in the same area and make it bare. A positive move I my opinion but interesting to see how it plays out

Gary, many moons ago that pond at the side of the 16th was a sort of rough bunker, it had been dug out but had no sand and was left to be overgrown. It was always tricky cos you had no control over the ball when (if) it came out. At least you could play it, not like in the pond!
