new balls

Just been chipping the s and z, the s feel almost like my Ad333 (a fraction harder) but the z feel like pebbles.
Will test the them both out with the big stick but gotta admit, just off the chips i wouldn't play the z. too hard.
Now if the s give me extra distance over the ad333 they may have a chance of replacing them. (dependent on price of course)

only played the tour s today due to short course,i agree they do feel like the ad333 soft feel but i felt i had a little more hold on the greens and the longer the round went on the more comfortable i felt.i usually play titleist pro v1 and i feel the tour s was just as good around the green and they were free which makes it all the better.i also gave one to my playing partner on the 14th lasted him 3 holes b4 he hit the water.t-t

Going to test mine on the putting green and short game area tomorrow but they do feel firm. Then again all Cally's do. I presume these are aimed at the top end and not the mid AD333 part of the market?

Played a full 18 today with both the z & s.
Played the z on par 4's & 5's & the s on par 3's.
Ist thing I have to say is Wow!!!...I'm hitting the z ball AS FAR as I was hitting a ProV1 and Nike One Tour in the summer. Admittedley some of this is down to my new i15 Driver compared to my G10, but, the z is going quite a bit further than the AD333's & the NXT tours that I have been using so far over the winter.
The z did lose a bit of surface paint finish after only 5 or 6 holes and it did cut up a bit with the Nike VR wedges, but this didn't seem to affect the performance.

Got a fair bit of check and backspin with the z, which was a little surprising on the soft greens.

I only used the s on 4 holes and to be honest, I didn't notice a lot of difference off the face, but it was softer off the putter. It also cut up a bit, but there was no paint loss. Got nice backspin with this ball also and won a bottle of champagne for nearest the pin in the Turkey Trot, so I can't complain.
I'm guessing that these are going to be priced in the proV1 range. As to whether I'd buy them in the future, it's too early to tell and I need to perform a lot more side by side ball comparisons during practice rounds, but so far so good.

where are you getting these free balls from?
They are new ball from Callaway, not yet released to the public, ( due out mid Jan). The 1st 200 GM forum readers to register on the Callaway website was given a sleeve of Tour s & Tour z balls to trial. We have to provide feedback on line after the trial.

Tried mine today, I like them..a lot. Great distance and really good stopping power. No trouble getting them to stop and even dance a little. I backed a wedge up 4 ft or so. I'll check the price but the tour z may be my ball for the new season.

I played a few holes with the z yesterday and was very impressed. I played it alongside a pro v1 and v1x. It flew further than both and was very nice to putt with, just not quite as soft as a prov1.

I did notice that it marks pretty easily though. Yesterday was freezing though, i doubt our course was above 1ºC all day so maybe not ideal conditions to be testing in.

I'm going to put them away until better conditions return and the balls get a fair chance. Maybe play them against a Taylormade TP red i've got.

Recieved the 2 types on Sat morn, just have to wait untill weekend for a try out.
The course may have dried out by then and we will see what the backspin is like.
Wonder what club speed they are for, an old codger like me?
Or a young gun?

Managed to get out and play 11 holes yesterday and tried the z.

I will echo the above that it seems pretty long, eapecially given the ground conditions. A bit clicky to putt with, but I could probably live with it.

Biggest disappointment, again mentioned before, was that it seemed to cut up and mark fairly easy. I saw noticeable marks after just 5 holes.

I did hit the s on the 11th and their is a noticeable difference in distance over the Z, but more pro v1 like to putt with, although still not quite on a par.

Overall impression; decent premium balls, but nothing more. I will probably stick with the z-star in the summer but may play the z for the rest of the winter until lost.

I played nine holes with the Z today. It travelled nicely when I got the occasional decent swing on it. I didn't see much improvement on the greens but I was playing rubbish.

I tried out both balls today.

Quite a crisp feel but with plenty of stop around the greens much like a pro v1x.The course as quiet so hit 6 balls with the driver and the tour i-z was around 10-15 yards longer but i prefer the feel of the tour i-s

Driver with tour i-z 263 avg
tour i-s 251 both SC readings

Not ideal to test in winter and imo they are about as good as any other top ball

I received 2 lots of them for some reason! Not that I'm complaining.

Played both balls on Thursday and they were both great off the tee - the z going longer than the s by about 5-10 yards.

Both balls were awesome with approach shots too, but the s was had too much spin around the green for me, however the z was ideal!

I prefer to have a bit of roll when chipping from around the greens and the s just seemed to bounce once and come to an abrupt stop! Great for people who like to attack the pin, but it's not something I'm used to.

Overall I'd pick the z if I was buying them at the moment, especially with the soft greens. In summer I'd probably switch to the s...
