I feel like a bridegroom the night before the wedding. Tomorrow my friends I'm stepping out onto a full course with all greens bar one open for play (unless there's a tempest tonight) to complete my first 18 holes. Really looking forward to it and hoping to feed off the nerves in a positive way tomorrow. I'll be back on tomorrow to let you know how I get on.

In the bag for tomorrow:
6 Iron - PW (Titleist AP1)
The Vokeys
My beloved putter
Rulebook
iPhone with Freecaddie

Wish me luck

Play well. Not much chance of a game round here tomorrow with snow still on the ground.

Come on spring where are you?

Better dry out soon as I have a game booked at Woburn next Friday.

Good Luck

You've two options :

1) Play the very best you can for every shot, using the best course management you can muster. You'll be proud of what you can achieve.

2) Or else go for it bigtime. You only ever get one chance to have your first ever go, so make it as much fun as possible. Go for those improbable shots, stop to hear the birds singing, look at the views. You'll never lose some of those images. And if you only hit ONE of your impossibles, you'll be talking about it for the rest of your life.

Either way, have fun

:D

PS did I ever mention my 3I to the 5th green to leave an eagle putt..........

Best of luck mate. See if you can beat my first round of........135 !! :D :D :D

I dont think i got the ball off of the floor on the front 9

Why no woods or any club longer than a 6 iron?

Hi Craw, it's all part of my game plan to learn to play the beautiful game of golf. From what I have read and heard a lot of new players struggle with their woods. As a result I decided not to get any or a hybrid till I had mastered my irons. At the moment I can't strike my 3-5 iron consistently so they're not allowed on the course. The ambition over the first three months is to have no pressure off the tee and try to work hard to improve my short game. The way I see it, three decent blows with my 6 iron can get me on the green on most par 5's. Check out the blog for more detail and to see the debate around my crazy approach to golf www.projectscratch.co.uk

good luck mate, at least your gear is cracking and if you can handle the putting with a Scotty you should do well. i think you may struggle without any woods on the longer holes though but it may work out as you wont be hunting in the bushes or out of bounds. all the best.

Best of luck mate.

I played my first 18 in september because my mates kept on at me to even though i didnt think i was ready. I walked up to the first and decided to give the driver a whack and smashed it 250 yards straight up the fairway. I also got a birdie on the 11th from chipping it in off the fringe. 2 shots that i will never forget and i got around in 124 which is much better than i had thought i would beforehand.

I hope tomorrow produces some good moments you wont forget aswell

Good to hear Tiger! Count every shot, so the next round you have a target to beat! :)

Go Tiger go........in da hole :D

I'll go now :o

Best of luck mate.

Only bit of advice I'd give is not to have swing thoughts on the course. Concentrate on course management and pre shot routine. But most of all, have fun :)

Good luck Tiger. I like your strategy with just irons. Less choice at the moment should mean better scores. But it could soon be time to get at least a 5 wood to help with a bit of distance.

good luck, nothing to worrie about - I went around in 152 my 1st time but really enjoyed myself.

I think the iron strategy is a good one, I lost loads of shots hitting my tee shot OOB with the driver. but on the other hand it is fun smashing it with the driver
