Over the past few weeks I've been on night duty. During the spring/summer/autumn this usually results in me hitting the course after work for a bit of millionaires golf. Lately though I haven't been able to find my drive to get out on the course. Hit the range a few times but a mix of the night duty, weather etc has left me feeling flat. Hoping to get out this afternoon for a few if I can drag myself out of bed. Thankfully this is all about to change when I start a job but until then I need a kick up the backside.

Anybody else get like this over the winter period?

I've never been a fan of winter golf. 5 layers of clothing, muddy balls, tee mats, flooded bunkers and temporary greens.

Come April though when the sun is out, spring is springing, nature is shouting "fore" and the Masters is on the telly its another thing altogether.

Bob if its any consolation i have been sulking since early November lol.
I quite enjoy the challenge of winter golf, especially winter league (pairs matchplay),sadly the winter league had to cancelled this year due to the course being closed for the whole winter because of flooding. We have only had one competition day since November 10th !!!
I started playing again in July 2011 after a 4 year break from the game due to back problems, and in all honesty i was really enjoying my golf untill the start of winter last year.I was seriously considering giving the game up,and trying to find other things to do with what little spare time i have, but my beloved decided to speak to the secretary at a club i was a member of several years ago.A deal was done and i'm now a member there once again, and looking forward to the start of the new golf season.
I seem to have refound my golf Mojo, although im sure a couple of poor rounds will have me crying into my Guinness once again. :D

You now at Maxstoke? Glad you didn't throw the towel in.

I've rejoined Stoneleigh Deer Park Robin.

Unbeknown to me my wife went and spoke to the secretary last week while i was at work, they were really helpful and offered me a good deal.I was a member there for several years until i stopped playing, and in all honesty i enjoyed my time there.Sadly a lot of my former playing partners moved to pastures new (Maxstoke) so i was a little apprehensive about rejoining because of this.
I was very tempted by Maxstoke, its a fantastic track with some of the best greens in the midlands,it is also very reasonable pricewise, but the thought of trying to get there for a quick 9 after work put me off (A45 at 5pm,no thankyou).
I couldn't tolerate anymore where i was,i've not picked a golf club up for 5 weeks now,and have only played one competition since November 10th because of the course being flooded.Working all week and being unable to play at the weekend because of course closures was starting to drive me insane, losing a weekend here and there due to the weather is fine, but losing the best part of 3 months in one go is not on imo.

exactly this

Turning up at the right course would be a start :smirk:

Changing course tends to get me reinvigorated again, new challenges etc. You are welcome to mine at any time if you want to come down during the week

I've played it and it is nice, got quite a few ex-members at KGC from their also. 7th hole is a favourite of mine. Obviously it can get wet at times with the Avon going through it but nothing to the same degree of what you've gone through at Copsewood.

Good luck and hope you get your mojo back ;)

I'm terrible in the Winter, all I can say is "GET OUT THERE MAN!!!!".... it's exactly the same as I'm telling myself everyday.

It hasn't worked yet :p

I'm not a winter golfer myself. I've played 4 times since the end of October, and although I've enjoyed it when I have played, I don't have the motivation to feel I have to play more.
Got a game arranged for tomorrow on a great course, excellent forecast and good company. I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.
It's starting to feel that spring's just around the corner.

I was doing well at keeping my chin up and cracking on despite the cold and wet weather but I'm starting to flag a bit now....fed up cleaning my shoes each week, living in waterproofs out on the course, mud balls, constant threat of rain and my GoKart is covered from top to bottom in mud, needless to say it's becoming harder and harder to drag myself down the club to even hit the range let alone go out there for 4 hours. April can't come soon enough.

I take that back.... just did 18...... this post made me get outta my chair and get on with it, so CHEERS Palindromicbob

Felt a bit cheated today. Course was down to 9 holes because of waterlogging and the pairs event cancelled for tomorrow. In what I thought was a logical move I assumed it would be 9 holes today. Rocked up and found it was fully open. How or why did that come about. Went to the practice ground but I didn't hit it great and was frustrated about not being out.

The point is although I've worked hard over the winter I've had no inclination to go out and play on a shortened course or one that is sodden. Had I known it was open I would have jumped at the chance. My only round of 2013 was last week and was 18 holes played in rain, sleet and snow. I'm not a fair weather golfer but see 9 holes a bit like playing foursomes and it feels like half a game. I want to get out and test the work I've put in over the winter without feeling like Michelin man in layers of clothes.

I'm assuming if its open today and no rain due then I'll get a game tomorrow which will scratch the itch. Just a shame I'm hitting it a little poorer than of late and I can't blame range mats as I was off grass today. On the plus side I've a short game lesson coming up which as everyone knows is the weakest part of my game. Get that working and I can work on chipping and that will undoubtedly ignite my motivation. Get that going and I will want to be on the course all day every day

Today was gorgeous! Perfect golfing weather. Loved it. Hitting it miles.

Man up and get out there, it's fun!

This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Played a scramble today and finished 2nd (course very wet), Forest of Arden tomorrow, Brocket Hall monday and Tadmarton Heath friday. I used to never play much in winter, these days its a perspective thing, if you expect the course to be perfect, get good lies all the time etc youre going to be disappointed, if you go out there solely to have good fun in good company then it beats staring at the computer screens hands down!!!

of course you were, your a forumer :ears:

Its all relative ;)

On the original question, I must be one of the wimpiest people on the planet and with no 'insulation' to speak of get cold very quickly, but I can't wait to get out there each weekend.

If its cold put another layer on. Who cares if it restricts the swing a bit, it's still playing golf.

Having said all that, if I wasn't motivated I wouldn't go. Life's too short to fill it with things you'd rather not be doing.
