Maybe someone else on here can remember reading a write up on a chap who started the game of golf with a HC of 18+ and set his sights on getting down to scratch. I can't recall if it was this mag or when I used to subscribe to the dark side (Today's Golfer)!!

Any way long storey short he did it in a year with lots of coaching and practice from 18+ to scratch having been a non golfer.

18 handicap to scratch in one year??? Really??? Really???

Yeah, I'll do it, next year, simples.





Or maybe the year after.

Really chaps do you think I would make it up

Just find it hard to beleive thats all i am quite happy to be told he done it in fact good on him but that is some going...

I believe Greg Norman took the game up aged 16 - within one year he was off scratch. He's a freak. Anyone else would take years to get to scratch - if they ever get there.

The guy that reckons he's managed to do it.

I don't believe a genuine 18 handicapper can do it.

Someone who has been 'protecting' their handicap might make a good show of it, though.

I don't know about being a scratch golfer but I reckon YOU could shoot level par (or better) within a year if you had all the time/necessary resources.

Noone's been after that for over 20 years, thank god.



Now if only I had a pair of white chinos, I might well be able to attract a better class of chuff adder.



BTW I still don't think I could get a scratch round in, even with all the backup in the world - but if someone fancies sponsoring me for a year I'll give it my best shot.
