As some of you know, I've reached the final of a corporate golf tournament, which takes place at The Dukes Course, Woburn on Thursday.

There were 7 regional qualifiers around the country and I entered the one at The Nicklaus Course, Carden Park. Played really well and secured one of the two spots up for grabs.

We're going down the day before and all having a meal together, when we will find out the running order etc. No doubt `I'll end up having a gazillion shots and risking the trophy, but it's all part of the fun...

Played Celtic Manor this weekend as a warm up and had one lesson today and have another tomorrow. After the lesson, played my teaching pro a 6 hole match on the simulator and won by one - I think he let me win to be fair. Same tomorrow, with final preparation and a bit of fun at the end.

My work recently has been focussed on releasing the club and I am still releasing a little early, so missing left. I can get it spot on, but do have a failsafe in aiming a tad right if it plagues me on the day. Otherwise, my game is as good as it's going to get for now.

I have played the course previously, albeit many years ago and have refreshed by watching Dan Grieve make his way around.

As some of you also know, my secret weapon is my business partner, who will be caddying for me on the day. No one yet knows, apart from the organiser's and it's another bit of fun to add to the day.

I do get nervous in comps, but hope to have a great deal of fun and will keep you all posted how the day goes.

Previously when you said a corporate golf comp I thought you meant that it was a comp run by your employer (assumed it was a big corp), but now I think I’m wrong?

No, it's a company we work with and many have golf days, but this is now an annual event and is great fun, attracting people from all around the country to the regionals and then the final, usually at Woburn.

So, I know most of the competitors and obviously the organisers, as we are all from the same industry and bump into each other at various points throughout the year.

Please don’t think it’s a dig but having shot about 10 better than your handicap both rounds at Celtic Manor you must be playing well and feeling confident, just keep doing the same thing and hope the purple patch continues.
Did you put general play cards in at Celtic Manor?

Keep us all informed about the day

I haven't taken it as a dig. I didn't think the courses played too difficult at the weekend and the length off the yellows worked for me. Plus, I played as good as I have this weekend. All could go tit's up on Thursday.

No, I didn't put the cards in. It was fun and I wish I did now! I play my club comp every Saturday and submit a scorecard and it is going down, but I have gone through some big numbers this year. The lessons are working. I just need to practice more and could really work on it. Sadly I work long hours and don't have much opportunity during the week.

There'll be bandits on the day, so we all have to take handicaps with a pinch of salt and enjoy the day.

Have fun, sounds like a great day out.

Is your caddie going to be able to carry your bag? It's probably just the angle, but he only looks about 4 feet tall.

I worked for an organisation with a big golf society. These days were a great mix of proper golf and taking the pee!

Good to see you're getting into the spirit! (With both feet)

Dukes is a smashing course. Lots of fun to play. I'm there at the end of month, looking forward to it.

There are buggies laid on, but he will be fine carrying - it is the angle and the boiler suit legs are made for a 7 foot giant.

Went for lesson number 2 this week and we played a few holes on the simulator. Really enjoyed it and results were decent.

Trip down tomorrow for some pre-golf debauchery.

Ok, first disaster.

30 miles from hotel (about 130 from home) and the three ironed outfits I prepared I’ve left hung in my car.

Now rushing to American Golf to buy trousers, polo and gilet.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

That’s how I ended up with several pairs of shoes…

Good luck

Did that myself a few years ago when going on a golf weekend. Picked up by a mate, loaded all my golf gear into his car and we set off. Two hours later my wife phones, “ do you know your weekend bag is still in the hall?”😳

I had to buy golf clothes and casual clothes for the two nights away.🤣
