My swing plane is too flat...

It has been pointed out to me by my club pro that my swing plane is too flat. I've found that when i try to correct this and keep my backswing more central and upwards (hope that makes sense) that i lose control of my legs more easily and develop a reverse pivot.

Anyone got any good drills, or experience, for correcting this other than just feeling more upright in the swing and making sure my weight goes left, instead of right, on the backswing.
 
Try hitting balls with a woodcover under your left arm -initially don't worry were the ball goes and dont swing right through just try to keep the woodcover in place (it will feel really restricting) but this should encourage you to rotate your body and turn through the ball from you new upright position
 
Stand closer to the ball and keep your chin up to allow easy shoulder turn.
 
I check my takeaway position half way back. If the clubhead is behind my hands, I will definately make a flat swing, which will then lead to me casting from the top and all the horrors that leads to.

Once I'm comfortable that I'm taking the clubhead back slowly without breaking my wrists I then need to check that I don't keep my right elbow too close to my body. When I'm practising it feels as tho' I'm copying Nicklaus's flying right elbow, but when I swing properly it feels more natural.

As far as my feet are concerned, it's about 45/55 with more weight on my right foot at address, and I try to set up with slightly more weight on the inside of my right foot, then as I takeaway my weight comes back over my right leg, rather than going too far beyond my leg, causing a sway.

This is very tricky for me to put into words, but it's relatively simple to see and feel when you're practising, once you know what your body is telling you.

Sorry if it sound way too complex. It's generally just a way of trying to get into a better position at the top of the backswing,
 
Slugger, 2 questions if I may.
1. Did your pro say your swing was flat or too flat?
2. You want the weight to go left not right on the backswing?

Slugger, I'm afraid you have the bad end of the deal.
i.m.o. flattening a swing is easier than making it more upright, I've done both over the years and know which one came quicker!
So, you need to get your head around "how" to change your swing for the better.

If you have been there before you might stand a chance. If you are suggested some drills, you might also be able to figure it out quickly......
If I make a suggestion (I did a lot last year on going back "up" again) it might not work for you. If you go to a pro and he makes a suggestion which doesn't work for you, work with him until you are getting the hang of it....it's the only way.

If a club pro (who I don't have coaching from) commented on my swing in this regard, as I've done both, I'd know the drill (for me) for either way.

That's the great thing about lessons, if you remember the damn fix six years later!!!! :cool:

The pro said was that i had to actually make effort to get my hands up above the line of my shoulder, rather than round the back of my shoulderblades...

I was just wondering if anyone had been shown any drill that makes this easier than i'm finding it.

Like I said - practise with teh ball below your feet. If you swing flat you will miss the ball! I have seen various Pro's teach this, including John Jacobs.
Just be careful though, this drill will make the ball go left to right.

Try a half back-swing to position where left arm is parallel with ground. The grip should point to the ball and left arm should be in line with toes

Get an old club, stand with your back close to a wall and try and swing back without hitting the wall
or, book a lesson on an Explanar :)
