Came back from a one week golf holiday in Spain yesterday. After everyone else claimed their luggage, I was still lingering about, waiting for my golf bag to appear at the bulk luggage belt. No joy. Actually, not a single piece of bulk luggage came through (and there must have been at least 10 golf bags on that plane from what I saw at check-in). The guy there sent me to the lost luggage counter and from there I was sent on to another lost luggage counter at the other end of the terminal, waited in line for about half an hour (it was already past 11 pm and I knew my parents were waiting to pick me up outside without any chance of reaching them, because they never take their mobiles). The guy at the counter was the slowest typist I ever say, with about ten keystrokes a minute (I kid you not, he had to search for every key on the keyboard, it was unbelievable). He was very friendly, though, and, when I finally made it to the top of the line, kindly informed me that my golf bag was still in Spain and would get there with the first plane on Sunday and then be delivered to my house.

Now I've been sitting at home all day, waiting for them to call me up and inform me when I can expect the golf bag to arrive, but so far, no luck. I am starting to get a tad nervous.

Word of advice: if you can avoid it, never ever fly with Iberia. The lost luggage is just the top of the iceberg. The whole service was horrible and the plane on the way down there was really so old and dodgy that I feared for my life (and I am not a nervous flyer, but when two tires blow while landing and you almost nose dive into the runway, I think you are entitled to get a bit edgy).

Yup .. that's pretty much it. Now imagine only one sloth, but a queue of 20 angry travellers who all lost their luggage :p (I am not Louise, btw, I am Jutta ... FairwayDodger is Louise ... she plays much better golf than I do :D)

I'm not laughing at your situation, but I've got images of the sloth on zootropolis in my head now 😂

Ha ha. I saw this yesterday and loved the sloth scene.

My brother in law had the same scenario but the other way round which was worse. He had to hire golf clubs for three days and buy new golf shoes. He was not happy.

I hope your trip was good otherwise Capella.

Yeah, the fact that it could have been the other way round, leaving me without clubs and shoes (or rain gear or even trousers as it was, because I packed all of those in the travel cover as well) during the holiday, gives me some consolation.

Apart from the hiccups with the flights, the week was fantastic. Very intense on every level, because it was a coaching trip that included not only group and individual lessons every day, but also mental coaching and physio sessions in addition to playing either 9 or 18 holes in the afternoon. So I am quite exhausted now and my whole body is aching, but I learned a lot and managed to get it to the course for our little final comp on the last day. So I am now starting into the season with a really good feeling. Just need my clubs back.

Just checked the status of my luggage on the Iberia website and there it says they will be delivered tomorrow.

I would add two things i have had luggage never turn up. So you have to claim on insurance. The other sombody stolen them off the belt i know of this happening in the past

Always a danger of that happening, I am afraid, but in this case, there wasn't a single golf bag ever making it to the belt. Not even into the airplane. They just did not pack them (my guess is they either did not have enough time to do it or the plane was already overweight, which is totally possible, because it was fully booked out and everyone seemed to have absurd amounts of baggage). But at least they logged it into the system and according to Iberia it did arrive in Düsseldorf today and has been passed on to the shipping company that is supposed to deliver it to me tomorrow. We'll see.

Actually, I would not even have minded it being late and getting it delivered to my doorstep. It was more the stupid process of having to run through the whole airport and standing in line for half an hour waiting for sloth guy in the middle of the night that pissed me off. I mean, when they know they did not pack a specific bag into the airplane (and they are all tagged with ticket numbers etc.), couldn't they just inform the customer about it? That should be possible in this day and age.

I've had a similar experience with luggage. They know before the plane sets off that the case isn't on so why not pass that on to the cabin crew who tell you during the flight. You then know not to bother waiting at the carousel like a lemon and can go straight to customer services. Not hard to do and saves time.

Just once i had a suitcase (rather than clubs) not arrive on the carousel. As an encouraging note it was delivered to my home eventually. So fingers crossed for your clubs. Doesn't excuse the moron on the keyboard though.

Hope the bag turns up asap. Good job my wife wasn't on the flight with to popped wheels as she'd have been off there before it even got to the stand. I still have scars from where she dug her nails in on a bumpy landing coming into Jersey

I do a lot of flying into Europe, i only take a hand luggage bag it winds me up when they check it because everyone has taken two bags or bags that are way to big.

I flew to New Zealand, whilst my mountain bike flew to Sidney, and then coming home my bike and suitcase were two days late. Especially useful as my house keys were in my case.

It's back. After many trials and tribulations (not for me in this case, but for the poor guy who had to deliver it to me ... my address always is messed up by the sat nav system, so he ended up carrying it halfway through town) my golf bag made it back home and it seems like everything is still in it and unbroken. :) I'm quite happy and relieved. (Even though the thought of having to buy all new clubs with insurance money did hold a certain appeal as well)

Plus all your waterproofs GG of course. FJ shoes. The full works. Thankfully the insurance was not needed

Glad it has worked out well.

Glad clubs and owner are reunited and all goodies are accounted for
