My first Summer Pairs match play experience.

So excited about playing in the Summer pairs with Davey, a little nervous last night as ever before competitions, but the first round match was booked for 8:52am this morning. I'm going to keep this short....

First round, summer pairs virgins, drawn against an 8 handicapper and a 10 handicapper......who also happened to be the defending champions......who then went 2 over the course thru 11 holes and we shook hands on the 12.

It didn't help that both Davey and I played pretty bad but even if we'd played well we'd have gotten a beating.

So, knocked out in the first round and left mentally scarred for next year!

The good thing was the two guys we played against were a great laugh, gave me some good tips, and seemed to enjoy our company too. A good morning but we took one hell of a beating.

Glad you enjoyed it, breaking my cherry on the 10th of June. Very nervous already, I'm 26, partner 22 hcps playing a 16 and 14 hcp. Can't get knocked out first round though got a bye to the second!

It's a right old lottery, but you've got to go for it.

We've drawn two players off 12 in the next round, both of whom are coming down steadily.

It'll go one way or the other (obviously/!), I reckon they'll either par nearly every hole and it'll be over before the last 4 holes (on the other side of the clubhouse) or we'll do the same to them.

I love it, you'll never know which way it will go. As long as it's played in good spirit.

Played our Seniors pairs Friday - drawn pairs so you could end up with any partner. Drawn to play the very, very hot favourites, my partner arrived here off 15 and has rapidly, due to Clause 23 interventions, now reached 22 (probably his level as he was very chuffed with 30 points in his last outing).

My partner carried me for the first 3 holes, at which point I started to play. As partners we completely gelled and won 2 &1 which was the biggest surprise of the year. We were absolutely over the moon as we had been automatically written off. Bring on the next round.

Got our first 4bbb tomorrow.
My partner isn't too chuffed that she is giving 17 shots and 19 shots to our opponents.
But then they most probably are worried playing against an 11 hcp player.
Me.... I'll just toddle in the middle of them!

Waiting for Hawkeye to get back off hols and the Volvo draw should be ready by then. Hoping the break will have done him good as he was struggling. I had been playing OK but have lost my swing a bit this week so not good when both partners aren't hitting well. At least its a BB format and not foursomes. Usually he is a steady player and I tend to just play my usual erratic rubbish but usually loiter with intent and seem to come in at that vital moment. Might only do one or two things (the odd half or a win) but historically they've come at the right time to sneak us through
