As many of you know, I received a fantastic Burner TP driver from GM recently. As much as I like the club, I can't use it all the time as to get the vest from it I have to swing it incredibly hard, this is very bad for my back when I am having grief with it.

As a result I decided to grab a new driver for when the back isn't 100%.

I tried many with a completely open mind, and have ended up with a Ping G5 10.5* Stiff-Flex 65g aldila shaft. It gives me the ball flight I like, is good for a decent distance and importantly doesn't generate too much side-spin on poor strikes.

I have always had a controversial oppinion on Ping and have in the past declared that I would never use their products. However common sense has prevailed and I thought I would be a tool not to have the best thing for my game just because of my pig-ignorant views on Ping.

Sorry to the people at acushnet!

I too was never too keen on Ping, but am happily using a G5 driver at the moment. For all the weird and wonderful stuff that Ping produce, I have not ever been that impressed or comfortable with their gear, but to my mind the G series drivers are about as normal or traditional as you could want. The G5 looks right and goes well, plus the 65g Aldila is (seemingly) superior (for my swing) to the 55g in the Ft-3 I own. I used it today, with no odd shots or random things creeping in, just solid boshing.

MWJ Welcome to the dark side.
hold on a Minute What is the dark side...So far all Brands are the dark side

Well spotted......guilty pleasures though are always dark! Unless you've thrown away the roman catholic rule book.

No dark side round here, just the sweet feel of ping/TM and callaway.

GASP.....you are a good player.....I have noticed a trend that strong/good players seem keen on Grafalloy. I have a reg blue in my rescue and can't buy a straight one, but a mate at the club tried it out and it was a good as gold for him.....?? possible, what d'you reckon??

Grafalloy are generally stiffer than Aldila mate. I find Aldila suit me better as well although I had a Stiff Grafalloy Red in a titleist 905R which I really liked.

That's what I reckon. This guy at the club hits his clubs miles (nr. pro distance) and managed with a reg blue grafalloy...must have been fairly stiff??

RGUK, I wish I could give you a more definitive answer but I think you may be right. If not stiffer then a slightly differant kick point that suits a higher swing speed.

A definative answer is of course impossible. It's so hard to know what's going to suit....I have a m.a.s.h. (or some cobblers?) in my TM 3 wood and it's never been anything other than simply amazing.....I just wish I could hit the thing off the deck a bit better.
So far, the nvs green 65 is a real gem.....whoever mentioned I'd made a good decision with this should take up a crystal ball and make some cash!!!

Well MWJ the decision was one that you alone could make, but please do bear in mind this wise old saying next time you take to the tee

"If you ai'nt got a swing go buy a PING "
