Thought this would make an interesting post for both new and old members to share their views... No doubt will also attract some comedic answers:D

-What are your "must have's" for when you are playing golf (Water, food, equipment, clothing etc)
-What are your biggest do's and dont's whilst on the course?

I have had a long time out of the game and I love the equipment side of things and making sure I'm kitted up and prepared on the course but I still am actively having to think about the smaller do's and dont's (Ball marking, OOB rulings etc) Please fire away!

I carry a ridiculous number of balls, 'just in case's. Would normally have worst case scenario clothing, jacket trousers etc but have currently taken them out. As soon as this spell is over they are going back in 😁.

I will have water / lucozade and a bar of chocolate, either yorkie or kitkat chunky.

Don't's, I like a chat when I'm playing and have to remind myself to cut back a little at times if someone is a little serious.

Oooooo!

Must have a LARGE coffee to carry out. 1L of water, protein drink, nature valley bar, range tokens, fairly fresh glove, charged battery.

Must have clubs, I have forgotten those.

On the course.
DO ;

Just go when ready.
Walk to your ball.
don’t be dilly dallying behind me waiting for me to play.
Mark your ball and line up, I don’t want to watch your routine.
Do go for a drink after.
Have fun.

Don’t ;

Be boring.
Cheat.
Make me look for a ball that’s not worth anything on the card.
Drag your round out if your not enjoying it.
Be late.

Take water, balls and pitch mark repair tool

Do follow the rules and be considerate of others

Don’t cheat and don’t be inconsiderate

Must have; clean shoes
Do; clean your shoes
Don’t; forget to clean your shoes

Seriously
Must have fun
Do consider others
Don’t be ‘that guy’

Oh and clean your manky shoes!

Must have...Cap! Can't play without one except in Winter when a beanie is permissible
Do...watch Fragger's ball
Don't .... believe where Fragger thinks it's gone

Must haves are firstly golf clubs and balls, secondly a good look at the weather forecast and appropriate clothes, next and last as must haves, food and drink.

Do's - have fun and enjoy myself, I am not doing this for a living, be courteous to other players and know at least most of the more basic rules.

Must haves:
- water and a banana and/or energy bar
- baseball cap (seriously, it looks ridiculous, but for some odd reason I can't play without it)
- good luck ball marker (which is attached to before mentioned baseball cap :D)

Dos:
- relax, hum "Feeling Groovy" if things start to go awry
- be nice an supportive towards your fellow golfers
- hit provisional ball when there is even a shadow of a doubt about where the first ball ended up

Dont's:
- don't think about the score
- don't think about missed putts or bad shots either
- don't think about bunkers, water hazards, out of bounds lines or where you lost your ball on this hole last time
- don't think anything technical about the swing
- actually, best not think much at all, just hit the bloody ball

Do :-

Play when the course is quiet
Have fun
Go for your shots
Have relaxing company
Talk to the ball and clubs to give them feedback

Don't :-

Lose you temper and get angry, which then means the round is a wreck

Must Haves

Speed radar
A bag full of balls
Sat Nav
A big bottle of water

Must haves:
  • Panama hat. I have to protect my skin
  • Factor 50 sun screen - same reason
  • Sufficient balls, tees, pens
  • Waterproofs (in Scotland you never can tell)
  • Flask of Rusty Nail (only been in the bag since moving to Scotland)
  • Spare spikes for the shoes
  • Enough drink for the round
  • Energy/Chocolate bars for around the course

Do
  • Enjoy the game
  • Respect other players
  • Respect the course
  • Play at a good pace
  • Focus on your shot
  • Follow the same routine for every shot
  • Pop into the clubhouse before and after the game

Don't
  • Disrespect other players
  • Disrespect the course
  • Go too slow
  • Shout out loud
  • Go into the changing room with dirty shoes

Must have

Water - I drink a litre and a half on a typical round in summer, this keeps me hydrated and can help me concentrate on a good day - although drinking that much has a natural side effect but worth it.
Everthing else is in my bag, balls, tees, hat, score car holder and erasable pen, coin and divot tool + spares of everything

Good sence of humour for good fun, laugh and round with my regular Saturday morning playing partners

Don’t have/use -
iron head covers
Black golf gloves
A Score counter
A Ball retriever
A towel around your belt

Do -
Make sure you don’t have any of the things above

Must have:

clubs, balls, tees, ball marker, pitchmark repairer, golf shoes - anything else is a nice additional extra
