Does anyone know the oldest Municipal Golf Club/Course in England?
Thanks for the link. Think I've found an older one.
You had better tell Bowring Park then - they will have to change their sign!
Maybe Queen's Park in Bournemouth?? Was opened in 1905. Wild guess as it's local and old!!
Another one in Bournemouth is Meyrick Park. That was 1894. But no idea of its ownership now
Harborne started playing at Church Farm, a 9 holer, in 1895. They moved across the road to a new 18 hole and Church Farm is now a municipal.
Just looked in the Golfer's Handbook and it states founded in 1926. Didn't know about the earlier course.
Is this a Municipal Course?
No, it's a private members club, but in 1895 they played at the Church Farm course for a few years, then moved on. Church Farm is now a municipal. So, although it hasn't been a municipal for all it's history, it's a municipal now and has been around since at least 1895.
