Yep. My exact thoughts. I think he's becoming too involved in stuff away from the course. Fantastic golfer but I've never really taken to him. There was no need for him to say anything about Muirfield now that common sense has prevailed.

What's he supposed to do?
If he doesn't answer he gets accused of not caring or, worse still, supporting the old Muirfield stance.

The number of events Rory enters (or doesn't) shows where his priorities are. It's not money (anymore). His only aim is majors.

And lets be hinest, we all know they vote changed for one reason and one reason only. I'd like to the the place boycotted until a healthy female membership has been built up and not just a bit of tokenism.

I think k you'll find that he wouldnt boycott the event because its a major and he is a past champion of said major. Its nothing to do with money. Any other event other than the majors yeah you could maybe say that. But the players at the top of the game and the 3rd best golfer in the world don't care about money they want to put their names down in the history books. Rory has already said his sights are on Nick Faldo as Britain's best golfer, so if he has a chance to go to Muirfield and add to his 4 majors you can be sure that he'll be there.

Muirfield is the best course on the Open rota, why should the R&A boycott it? It meets the criteria that the R&A are looking for and they want their major played on the best links courses in the U.K.

It seems like the membership were always going to come out of this poorly regardless of the vote.

Because the second vote was purely tokenism.

They had a chance with the first vote and left themselves with egg on their face. The standard of the course is irrelevant imo. They've had a second vote purely to get the open, nit to grow the game.

Well put them to the back of the list until the effects of the vote are clear to see.

Money/prestige/more majors, whatever. He could have simply replied 'yeah, common sense prevails' but he enters into a diatribe saying 'obscene, 'horrendous'. If that's his stance boycott the next open and show them you firmly believe in what's happened. Doubt he will though.

Pressure has been put on them by the media to conform to public opinion and admit lady members. The town of Gullane and the surrounding area however do want the open to remain at Muirfield because of the revenue that The Open brings.
