I see Rory's in the press virtue signalling about this. If you feel that strongly boycott the event. Oh wait, there's money to be earned by entering. Guess that means it's all ok then.

That'll be the same Rory that had a lot to say about golf in the Olympics. He needs to shut his mouth more and let his clubs do the talking.

Yep. My exact thoughts. I think he's becoming too involved in stuff away from the course. Fantastic golfer but I've never really taken to him. There was no need for him to say anything about Muirfield now that common sense has prevailed.

The number of events Rory enters (or doesn't) shows where his priorities are. It's not money (anymore). His only aim is majors.
And lets be hinest, we all know they vote changed for one reason and one reason only. I'd like to the the place boycotted until a healthy female membership has been built up and not just a bit of tokenism.
Muirfield is the best course on the Open rota, why should the R&A boycott it? It meets the criteria that the R&A are looking for and they want their major played on the best links courses in the U.K.
It seems like the membership were always going to come out of this poorly regardless of the vote.
Because the second vote was purely tokenism.
They had a chance with the first vote and left themselves with egg on their face. The standard of the course is irrelevant imo. They've had a second vote purely to get the open, nit to grow the game.
Well put them to the back of the list until the effects of the vote are clear to see.
Can't see what it is exactly that Rory has said that is wrong , he was right about the Olympics and he is right about Muirfield - he is allowed to speak his mind when asked a question and shows he is human and not a media robot

Muirfield doesn't need the Open and a high percentage of members would rather they didn't get it.

Call it tokenism or not, it happened and it's time to move on from it.

This is the correct answer! The HCEG do not need the money or inconvenience that The Open brings to Muirfield. Pressure has been put on them by the media to conform to public opinion and admit lady members. The town of Gullane and the surrounding area however do want the open to remain at Muirfield because of the revenue that The Open brings.
