Muirfield to vote again!

So they have a vote to admit women and those in favour don't get the required majority, so they don't admit women.
The R&A says in that case they are taken off the Open rota.
They have another vote (they would, its Scotland 😀) and they vote overwhelmingly to admit women. The R&A immediately put them back on the Open rota.

Colour me cynical but this is a vote for the Open.

I am quite prepared to accept single gender clubs, though the concept is a bit outdated, but don't pretend you are suddenly all PC when you are not and only interested in worldwide recognition and loads of dosh. This entire sad affair has done Muirfield and golf no favours.

It's got nothing to do with hosting the Open it's all about being 'politically correct'

That's one spin on it. Truth is the r&a have a responsibility to develop the game and it has a terrible image problem in some regards. It just became untenable for them to host the open at a single sex venue.

Interesting that the R&A are happy to use a male only club for Scottish local final qualifying for the last 3 years, this year included.

No subs at Muirfield. At the end of the year the costs are all added up and divided by the membership and they are billed accordingly.

So how come there is apparently a 2 year waiting list according to the BBC News earlier?

I subscribe to the view that the minority reluctantly conceded due to the R&A stance on hosting the Open. The damage was done by the No vote last time - reputation in tatters and not undone by this vote which was years too late.

The BBC!!! lol

Its invite only to be a Member of THCEG, you might then sit on a list for a number of year before getting in, or getting Blackballed.

It was a Yes vote last time, just not by a big enough margin.

When are Sunningdale and Formby ladies clubs having a vote on admitting male members?

Now, now - Formby ladies make great cake.

We dont want any daft herberts getting in and spoiling the secret recipes, passed down from mum to daughter getting dumbed down by daft fellas.

Hush now!!!!

This needs repeating to be honest as it is the height of hypocrisy to host it at Glasgow GC

Membership of Glasgow Golf Club is open to gentlemen who have been proposed and seconded by existing Ordinary, Life or Veteran Members of the Club. In addition an application requires to be supported by a further six Ordinary, Life or Veteran Members.
On acceptance of an application for Ordinary Membership the applicant is admitted to Glasgow Gailes as a Gailes One Member. He will have full playing rights at Glasgow Gailes but will not have any voting rights.
Simultaneously he will be placed on the waiting list for admission to Killermont in addition to Gailes. On reaching the top of that waiting list he will become an Ordinary Member with full playing rights over both courses and also voting rights. Applicants for Ordinary Membership are currently being admitted to Killermont after about four years as a Gailes One Member.

Believe the Open qualifying Courses are picked on a 4 year rota so when Glasgow was picked about 6 years ago this issue rightly or wrongly wasn't at the forefront. After the vote and other courses now moving forward I expect the next rotation of Qualfying Courses will have to be within the R&A guidelines which they appear to be setting now.

Only taken them since 1744 to embrace change! Wonder what swayed the day doing the right thing for a modern golf club or the £ missing from the accounts without the prestige of being an "Open Championship" course? Interesting to see how many ladies take them up on the offer though - wouldn't be surprised if there is some reluctance. What was it Groucho Marks said....?!

I'm led to believe that the majority of members of the HCEG couldn't care less whether they get the Open again or not such as the concessions they have to make.
