my new (2nd hand) MP-60's arrived last night which I got from EaseNGrave last week. First of all just a quick thinks to him as they are in great condition all round.
They arrived about 4pm last night and I was at the range by about 4.20pm. What a mistake this was. Firstly, I don't like the mats at the range and I can't use my current clubs on there, secondly, I was still hung over from Saturday night so my body didn't want to be jigged around. The outcome as soem good shots but a lot of bloody awful shots.
I can't beleive how different these irons are, I've always had GI irons with big sweet spots and a big chunky look. The MP-60's are tiny compared to them, it was so easy to shank and hook shots. However, when I did manage to catch a couple the flight was amazing, not sure I got anymore distance but just the flight of a them has give me the determination to persist with them. I think several sessions a the local grass range will be coming up.

Intherough, keep the faith and don't hit the panic button yet!! I recently moved to MP60's and have taken a few games to get used to them, but on the range I was useless as well. These beauties need the softness of a 'proper' ball and a grassy lie

What I found is that they may not be the longest (I played Zing 2's and s59's before) but swinging smoothly brings the best results with a fantastic feel off the face. If you try to muller them, you will find it harder to time the shot leading to inconsistency.

I hope you persevere as I believe you will enjoy them :).....and for the money you paid it was worth a go :D

MP60,

they'll be gone by June, sweet spots the size of a pin head, better off getting clubs to suit you.

I traded my mx25's for mp60's and soon was looking for some mx25's again, I later found out a sweetspot is an otional extra which Mizuno only give to single handicap players.
Stick it out though they look great in the bag and really gleem out of a tree, ;)

mmm, don't sound good but i'll giuve them a good go before I make my mind up. I did notice a slow smooth swing produced a great strike but when I out a bit extra in it all wet tits up. This could be a problems as I often struggle to do a smooth swing and try to put a bit extra in.

I would persevere for a week or two to see if you get the feel for them because if you do, you will never look back.

If you don't, you'll easily get your money back on them if you sell them on!

Stick with them fella, if your playing off 10 then you should be good enough to get the best out of them. Ive had mine over 4 years and love em, although am planning to replace them with shiny new mp53's/63's later this year - think I might get Aztec to buy my mp60's when i do, cos he's a sucker for anything Mizuno :D

Dunno what you mean. I've only got Mizzy Irons, Bag, Wedges and Hat! :D

been the range again today. I think I may have biten off more than I can chew. Out of 100 balls I bet I hit 15 nice shots and that was with the 7 iron or lower. The 4,5 & 6 iron may have well ben made from lead. I hit them fat, left, right topped, everyting apart from a good shot. I may play off 10, but I've got to that using GI irons with a huge sweet spot. I'll give these a couple of weeks but it's not looking good.
My feeling is, I've spent years gettinbg down to 10 with these so why spend years changing and gettinbg used to irons which clearly may not be for me?

A combo set may be an idea, I love Mizuno blade/musclebacks in the 7 to wedge clubs but for the longer irons a bigger cavity back perhaps makes more sense?

if you're not middling it at the range you need to look at your set up as your balance is likely out or your timing is off from hitting too quickly. Swing smoothly with all your irons - lool at Luuuuuke for inspiration - fabulously smooth slow repetitive swing. ;)

The fact that they have a small sweetspot isnt what is making you top it, shank it and fat it. That is down to something else that could be anything... Club head/shaft is too heavy/light, grip is wrong size, length/lie angle is wrong, the look at address takes away your confidence... whatever...it could be ANYTHING!

The biggest difference between your new MP-60s and your old clubs is going to be on shots when you put a decent swing on it, but miss the sweetspot. On your old irons the distance these shots go will probably be closer to the distance you hit it when you hit the sweetspot, whereas with the MP-60s you may lose a fair few more yards on you mishits...

What I'm saying is that, from the way you are describing your shots with the new MP-60's, its not the "small sweetspot" thats the problem for you, its something else, and it could be anything. Thats why buying clubs without trying them first is a complete lottery.

IMO Give em a go for a little while longer to see if you can start putting some good swings on them, and if it still doesnt improve, sell them and go get custom fitted... or at least go to the range and try a variety of different sets out!!
