Moving the ball both ways?

Right to left, including big hooks around obstacles I'd back myself maybe 6 or 7 out of 10. Left to right and I reckon 1 out of 10. At my level though, keeping it simple and aiming for the centre of greens is the percentage play and unless I absolutely have to move it I won't

My current bad shot is it goes out to the right and then goes way left or goes straight and left.

Ideally my shot path is starting right of my target and coming gently back. This is what I have generally been taught. A shot which is a good combination of swing path and club at impact position.

I can fade on the range but I never set up to do it on the course. If the wind is off the left I just aim out to the right slightly more.

I normally hit a draw, sometimes a hook and occasionally a duck hook.

I can hit the ball left to right if I need to get round a tree, say, but the degree of left to right that actually occurs may range from gentle cut to banana ball so I usually only try it if there is a large margin for error.

When I took up golf I could only slice. Now after lessons/lots of golf I can only draw/hook.

To the OP, lots of top pros only hit it one way. By all means mess around with trying to hit a fade at the range, but it is not a necessary skill to lower your scores.

That's a good thought that sums it up well I think. As folk improve the degree of movement becomes that much more predictable and above all else, repeatable. Then there's still the bad days when somehow the opposite manages to happen and the laws of physics are left in the locker...

I play with a soft draw and can move the ball both ways off the Tee with my driver to order , can do with my irons but i like to stick to my stock shot and not chase flags , i practice all the time on the range moving the ball the other way so its nothink new to me , I use the fade to the shape off the hole or just to cut the ball away from the left side OB or trouble , have done it for years now and my method is with my hands for the fade , different set up and hands , like i say at the range i practice hitting all manner of shots and those that have played with me know , Delc for one , he seen me hooked one from behind trees onto the green with a 5 iron , practice makes perfect
