Moving the ball both ways?

Amateurs arent 'happy' and I'll bet 'can't' move the ball either way to order.

Anyone over a 3 h/cap who says they can are either kidding themselves or have the worst short game a potential scratch player can have:whistle:

LIKE ....

i have the ability to move the ball all right, and when you need to hit a draw or a fade and it works it looks great to others and feels great ..
Consistency and full control .............................. sleepsville golf only im afraid :D

He's, technically, right.

All depends where he's where the initial aim is.

I didn't comment on aim. The ball flies straight whether at an aim point or not then moves right on its descent. Pro fades dont move (very much) laterally before their apex.

Every Saturday you hear club players swaying their ball took off at something or other on the left side of the home but "faded" back into the right side of the fairway. No it didn't. That wasn't a fade, that was a slice. Fades and slices differ by more than the degree of movement.

I suppose the point, I poorly made, was that the shape, or the amount of curve will be accounted for at set up (Aim).

One thing I have got into my game in the last couple of years is a left to right tee shot. In fact, having always been a hooker (draw on a good day but always two or three nasty hooks thrown in at some point), I've made the fade my stock shot. Generally, the worst that happens is that it goes straight and coupled with a higher ball flight I've been getting more distance too. Irons.......well that's a whole different story...... hit a perfect fade round some trees into a green with a 7 iron - once - ever.

My natural shape is a slight draw. I cannot hit a deliberate fade for love nor money

me too, though when i was starting lessons earlier in the year was hitting everything with a fade ( i hated it by the way)

I can do; block... pull... Hook, but no when i want to;)

My stock shot is a little draw, strangely enough if I am in bother and need to hit a fade/cut round a tree/obstacle I find it pretty easy, if I have to hit a big raking hook I find it much more difficult to achieve.

moving the ball both ways is how I knock it around. hitting it straight is something I struggle with so I don't try it. I find it is easier to know where the ball will miss if I intentionally try and put some shape on it. if I over do it then ill miss on an intended side.

trying to hit it straight and not knowing if it will end up left or right is a pet hate of mine!

There are a lot of people on here talking the talk. Can they really walk the walk?

My natural shot is a fade but I can work a draw with my irons. I work hard on this at the range and bought some pro sticks so I have targets to practice controlling draws and fades around.

But ... I really struggle to draw my driver. If I practice a lot I can get comfortable with it, but if I haven't played for a while I won't even try on the course. Instead I will play for my fade and take 3 wood off the tee on a dog-leg left.

My thoughts on your question; I would learn to play a fade if I were you.

This is one person with a handicap higher than 3 who can do it.

Before any smart arse starts giving it the big un saying im talking crap, ask anybody who has ever played golf with Gaz. Cant hit a straight shot :D

Kaymers not on here..........ya missed the point of the OP;)

No not at all. My point is anyone who says they can move the ball both ways to order is kidding themselves. Even the VERY top pros struggle to do it. Sure, everyone can hit a fade or a slice at some point but a fade isn't much use on a right to left dogleg and a draw is useless on a left to right dogleg.

I can hit it both ways, just don't know when it's going to happen

uh ok, we're saying the same thing then:cheers:

I'm definitely happy trying to shape the ball both ways it actually works every now and then, with everything except the driver (which does what it wants) and my 22* which will never fade........ever - I could be ball below feet, howling gale off the left and I'd still get a draw with it!
